The Exploratory Campaign of Petrobras in the Santos Basin Is in Full Swing and the Company Has Just Announced Another Drilling of a New Well in the Sepia Block, Aiming to Expand Its Oil and Natural Gas Production in the Region.

Petrobras announced, last Monday (08/01), the drilling of a new well in the Sepia Block, located in the Santos Basin, in the state of São Paulo, the 4-BRSA-1386D-RJS. The entire drilling process is being carried out with a rig from the company Ocyan and the company’s exploratory campaign in the Santos Basin is in full swing, after movements of oil and natural gas production during the month of April.

Petrobras Begins Drilling Works for New Well in the Sepia Block Using Rig from the Company Ocyan for More Operational Quality

Even with the national fuel scenario being quite unstable due to political interference, Petrobras continues its oil and natural gas production exploration projects and has just announced another step in the sector, the drilling of a new well in the Sepia Block, located in the Santos Basin. The company has begun the works to drill the well named 4-BRSA-1386D-RJS, which could contribute to the company’s productive growth in the Southeast region of the country.

Additionally, the company announced that the drilling of the new well in the Sepia Block is being conducted using the NS-41 (ODN I) rig from Ocyan, in a water depth of 2,197 meters, aiming to ensure more operational quality throughout this process.

Ocyan is an international company focused on solutions for oil and gas operations and offers cutting-edge technology to ensure greater efficiency and safety in its activities, thus allowing for more control by Petrobras over the drilling.

The oil and natural gas fields of the Sepia Block, in the Santos Basin, have a 30% stake from Petrobras, in partnership with TotalEnergies (28%), Petronas (21%), and Qatar Petroleum (21%). Furthermore, the region was acquired by the Brazilian state-owned company during the 2nd auction of surplus from the onerous transfer in 2021, with a surplus percentage of 37.43%. Now, Petrobras continues its fuel exploration campaign in the area with the drilling of the new well.

Production of FPSO Carioca Connected to the Sepia Block Ensures the State Company a Strong Presence in the Oil and Gas Sector in the Santos Basin

Petrobras has a strong presence in the oil and gas sector of the Santos Basin currently due to its production on the FPSO Carioca platform, currently interconnected to four wells located in the Sepia Block and leads the ranking of the largest oil-producing units in the country.

Moreover, the FPSO Carioca project includes the interconnection of seven producer wells and four injector wells to the vessel, also having a CO2 removal system present in the gas produced and reinjection into the reservoir, reducing the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, thus ensuring better environmental quality and reducing the impacts caused by the company’s production.

The company started production at another well in the Sepia Block during April of this year and now, with the use of the Ocyan rig for the drilling of well 4-BRSA-1386D-RJS, may accelerate its goals with the FPSO Carioca project in the Santos Basin. Petrobras aims to reach the mark of 180 thousand barrels of oil per day on the platform and will utilize the new well to achieve this target.
