Felipe Santa Cruz’s Office Worked on Labor Cases for Petrobras and Will Have Contract Terminated.
A report by journalist Mônica Bergamo, from Folha de S.Paulo, published yesterday, August 6th, disclosed Petrobras’s cancellation of the contract it held with the office of the president of the OAB.
The law office of the OAB president, Felipe Santa Cruz, worked on labor cases for Petrobras and recently
won a case that prevented the state-owned company from making a payment of R$ 5 billion in overdue overtime to employees onboard oil platforms.
The OAB president stated that he will file a lawsuit against Petrobras for damages and claimed that: “There is clearly a political persecution underway”.
When sought for comment, Petrobras stated that it would not comment on the matter. This case may be another chapter involving the government of President Jair Bolsonaro and the Santa Cruz family.

Statements from the President
It is worth noting that President Jair Bolsonaro, last week, made a comment regarding the disappearance of the father of the president of the Order, stating that if the lawyer wanted, he would one day tell how his father disappeared during the military regime.
Bolsonaro also stated that Santa Cruz “doesn’t want to know the truth” about his father and later claimed that Fernando Santa Cruz was killed by members of Ação Popular (AP), a leftist group he was involved with, which the president referred to as a “terrorist group”.
According to findings by the Truth Commission of the Navy and the Air Force, it was indicated that Fernando Santa Cruz was arrested by agents of the military regime one day before the date he died.
The death certificate of the activist states: “unnatural, violent death, caused by the Brazilian State, in the context of the systematic and widespread persecution of the population identified as politically opposed to the dictatorial regime from 1964 to 1985”.
In light of President Bolsonaro’s statements, Felipe Santa Cruz filed a request for explanations with the Supreme Court last Wednesday (July 31st), and the president has 15 days to respond if he wishes, according to Minister Luís Roberto Barroso.
In the request, the OAB president reiterates that it is not the first time Bolsonaro has attacked him and tried to disqualify his father’s memory, given that the Brazilian state has recognized on several occasions that his father was a victim of enforced disappearance perpetrated by agents of the dictatorship.
