The Diesel R5 Tests Were Successfully Completed at the Repar Refinery and the Company Will Move on to the Next Phases of the Product Implementation Project. The Fuel Has 5% Renewable Content and Is the Next Bet of Petrobras for the Market.

On this last Wednesday, (11/23), the state company Petrobras held a meeting at the Presidente Getúlio Vargas Refinery (Repar), in Araucária (PR), to announce the completion of its new fuel with renewable content. The Diesel R5 has 5% renewable content in its composition and is the next bet of the state-owned company for the future of the national market. With the success in the testing phase, it advances to the next stages of the product implementation in the market.

Diesel R5 Produced at Repar Achieved Success in Testing Phases and Will Be Petrobras’ New Bet for the Future of the National Fuel Market

Investments in new solutions to bring more sustainability to the fuel sector have been constant by Petrobras in recent years.

Now, the company announced the completion of the testing phase of its new fuel with renewable content, the Diesel R (in the R5 configuration), a fuel with 5% renewable content (of plant origin) in its composition.

The announcement ceremony was held at the Repar refinery, with representatives from the fuel sector and the company’s venture, which is now focused on the implementation of the product in the national market.

For the testing phase, Petrobras used Diesel R5 in a total of four buses from Autoviação Redentor, which traveled the highways of Paraná for 6 months, thus verifying the feasibility of implementing renewable content fuel in the market.

The state company had the help of Vibra Energia, Mercedes-Benz, URBS (the agency that manages public and commercial transport in Curitiba), in addition to Autoviação Redentor, during the testing phase.

Now, the company focuses on the renewable content fuel produced at Repar for the future of the fuel segment.

“This was the first test of diesel with renewable content conducted in Brazil under real use conditions. We are very satisfied with the results that demonstrate the feasibility of Diesel R5 as a quality fuel alternative with lower greenhouse gas emissions,” emphasized Petrobras’ Director of Marketing and Logistics, Claudio Mastella.

State Company States That Diesel R5 Has Reliability and Efficiency and Will Make the Fuel the Future of Renewable Products Segment in Brazil

Petrobras celebrated the testing phase of the new fuel with renewable content produced at Repar, stating that the product has reliability and efficiency in its use.

Moreover, issues such as filter clogging, deposits in the injection system, or loss of engine power were not identified in the vehicles that used Diesel R5, according to the state company.

As for the fuel consumption volume of the vehicles, the new fuel has the same measurement as the fuels already used in the market.

Finally, the testing phase was responsible for evaluating costs, logistical issues, and distribution of Diesel R5, with success in all of them.

Petrobras’ forecast now is that, already at the beginning of 2023, the first batches of the new fuel will be sent for commercialization in the market.

“Repar already has the capacity to produce diesel with renewable content, using coprocessing of plant raw material. And we plan to expand the production of diesel with renewable content to other refineries in the Southeast and, in the future, have a dedicated unit for processing plant raw material. By 2026, US$ 600 million will be invested with this goal, through the BioRefining Program,” concluded Petrobras’ Director of Refining and Natural Gas, Rodrigo Costa.
