The Revitalization Project of the Hydrographic Basin of the Urucuia River Will Be Benefited With Millions in Investments Applied by the State-Owned Company. The Agreement Between Petrobras and Ibama Provides for Strong Support for the Development of Pró-Águas Urucuia in the Coming Years.

For this Thursday, (05/01), the state-owned oil company Petrobras has a new agreement with the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) and the Union to reverse some of its penalties into benefits for the country. Thus, it was agreed that the state-owned company will make investments of R$ 104 million in environmental services. Among them is the Pró-Águas Urucuia project, which provides for the revitalization of the hydrographic basin of the Urucuia River and will be supported by the state-owned company in the coming years.

The Pró-Águas Urucuia Project Will Receive Million-Dollar Investments in the Next Five Years After Agreement Signed Between Petrobras and Ibama

Petrobras has been working in recent years to reverse some of its penalties in the national territory and, now, will turn to environmental services as a way to compensate for some of them.

The company signed a Commitment Term with Ibama for the implementation of investments of R$ 104 million in environmental services, thereby reversing its penalties into benefits for the national environment.

For the development of the initiative, the Pró-Águas Urucuia project was chosen, which integrates the Brazilian Waters Program, an inter-ministerial initiative coordinated by the Ministry of Regional Development (MDR).

“The initiative is aligned with Petrobras’ strategy to eliminate uncertainties and potential legal disputes while contributing to enabling environmental investments in priority areas for the country,” said the state-owned company.

Petrobras will then support the development of the Pró-Águas Urucuia project with million-dollar investments over the next five years, aiming at the revitalization of the hydrographic basin of the Urucuia River.

The Pró-Águas Urucuia Project Will Benefit From Petrobras’ Investments and Support the Revitalization of the Basin, as Well as Actions in 14 Cities in the Region

The main objective of the Pró-Águas Urucuia project with the million-dollar investments from Petrobras after the agreement with Ibama is the revitalization of the hydrographic basin of the Urucuia River.

But the initiative will go beyond that and will carry out affirmative environmental actions in 14 cities in the states of Minas Gerais and Goiás.

With R$ 104 million in investments, the initiative aims to plant more than four million seedlings of native species from the Cerrado over five years.

During this period, soil and water conservation and the reconstitution of native vegetation on two thousand hectares of the region are also planned, thus ensuring more benefits for the Pró-Águas Urucuia project.

After the agreement with Ibama, Petrobras will then be able to benefit an initiative worthy of recognition by environmental agencies throughout the country.

Learn About the Pró-Águas Urucuia Project

The Pró-Águas Urucuia project aims to recover the areas that involve the Urucuia River Basin by restoring native vegetation. It is also expected to preserve water and soil across the territory.

The project is of great relevance to all of Brazil, as it directly benefits the recharge area of this Aquifer, which is one of the most important in the country, being linked to the supply of millions of Brazilians.

There is also, as another consequence, the improvement of environmental quality for the Cerrado biome. This environmental recovery of the Urucuia River is also important because it is a major tributary to the São Francisco River.
