With an Investment of Approximately R$ 10 Million, Petrobras Enhanced Its Integrated Operations Center (COI) in the Campos Basin

Petrobras invested approximately 10 million reais in the Integrated Operations Center (COI) in the Campos Basin. In the COI, it is possible to monitor in real-time, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the production parameters of 190 wells operated by UN-BC in the Campos Basin. Additionally, 11 platforms are operated remotely in the space.

There are over 50 TV monitors that track, in real-time, oil production processes and oil and gas flow in the region, located tens of kilometers away from Macaé.

Petrobras Monitors in Real-Time, 24 Hours a Day, Seven Days a Week, the Production Parameters of 190 Wells Operated by UN-BC in the Campos Basin

From the COI, it is possible to monitor in real-time, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the production parameters of 190 wells operated by UN-BC in the Campos Basin. The COI also monitors inventories and makes estimates of oil production and flow, which prevents temporary shutdowns of the platforms; in addition to tracking the operations and locations of tankers and supply vessels.

The systems recognize any changes in the production process, and when necessary, an alert is sent immediately to the COI, allowing for faster decision-making and increasing reliability and safety levels.

The next step is to incorporate digital technologies, such as Machine Learning tools, to find patterns among different classes of information and thereby improve the efficiency of oil exploration and production activities. The goal is to generate statistical analysis and be able to predict, for example, maximizing oil and gas flow and even optimizing oil treatment parameters of the industrial facilities on the platforms.

“Faster processing and more efficient algorithms help us reduce risks and anticipate decisions, increasing the economic return of our processes,” explains Fernando Borges, Director of Exploration and Production at Petrobras.

Remote Operational Control

The Integrated Operations Center also has connectivity resources and technologies that allow for secure remote operational and production control of a platform. Currently, 11 platforms are already under land control. One of the advantages of this model is the reduction of onboard personnel, which helps decrease occupational risk exposure while maintaining quality and safety levels.

The platform is “replicated,” and operations can be performed remotely. The onshore control rooms have all the devices of an offshore setup. The operator on land communicates by radio at any time with the professionals on board and can control valves, pumps, and other equipment for oil and gas production.

Projects like these enhance the operational efficiency and safety excellence of Petrobras. The company continues to invest in technology and innovation as a business lever and also to promote the safety of people, the environment, and facilities.
