Aiming to Reduce Time Between Discovery and Production, Petrobras Wants to Establish a New Platform Contracting Model

According to the Executive Director of Production Development & Technology, Rudimar Lorenzatto, the goal of the new model is to improve interface management in the construction of FPSOs.

“The idea is to have only one integrator responsible for the scope, and for the quality, cost, and deadline results. In the past, we used to hire one company to build the hull, another for modules, and another for integration. The idea now is for one company to do this while we supervise that company. With this, we believe we will achieve better results in quality, cost, and deadlines”, said the Petrobras director.

Currently, Petrobras is constructing the modules (most of them) and converting the hulls in international shipyards and doing the integration and commissioning in Brazil, as was the case with the FPSOs Replicants made in China and finished here.

In proposing changes to the current model, Petrobras will consider the lessons learned in recent years, related to technical areas, business models, and even contracting with the supply chain.

Reducing the Time to Produce

Many changes are happening at Petrobras, which currently wants to reduce the time between the discovery of hydrocarbon signs and the production of a field to 1,000 days in deep waters by the end of the next decade.
This statement was made on Wednesday by the Executive Director of Exploration and Production, Carlos Alberto de Oliveira.

Last year, the global industry average between a discovery and production was 1,900 days (5 years), so the reduction would be approximately 50%, going down to 1,000 days, representing another major challenge for Petrobras. According to Oliveira, the state-owned company already has some projects at this level.
