Petrobras Announces Forecast of Massive Investment of US$ 22 Billion to Expand Production in the Campos Basin, Located in Macaé. The Project Aims to Create Approximately 25,000 Jobs, with Opportunities Also for Those without Experience.

A new era of opportunities is approaching for Macaé, a city that establishes itself as the largest energy operation hub in Brazil.

Amid the event celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first oil discovery in the Campos Basin, Petrobras revealed ambitious plans: to invest US$ 22 billion in the revitalization of wells, the creation of new exploration fronts, and the decommissioning of old structures.

This astronomical amount has the potential to generate approximately 25,000 new jobs by 2028, heating up the market and bringing promising prospects, especially for those seeking their first job.

According to the Macaé City Hall, the goal goes beyond mere economic growth.

The partnership between the state-owned company and the municipal government promises to break paradigms by proposing a new hiring approach for these thousands of jobs, including positions for people without proven experience in the sector.

To strengthen the plan, the Mayor of Macaé, Welberth Rezende, is in direct negotiations with Petrobras to ensure that experience requirements are relaxed for new hires, enabling the inclusion of newly graduated workers from the training courses promoted by the city.

“It is possible to ensure that this requirement is reversed, to allow many people to return to the job market, in addition to the opportunity for first jobs for many young people,” Rezende stated, advocating for a more inclusive and accessible workforce, according to the Macaé City Hall website.

Strategic Plan for Macaé

The Petrobras project aims not only to expand the production of crude oil and natural gas but also to strengthen Macaé as the “Energy Capital”.

According to Sylvia Maria Couto dos Anjos, Executive Director of Exploration and Production at the state-owned company, the Campos Basin will continue to be the main pillar of deepwater operations, consolidating the city as a strategic base for the sector.

The mayor, Welberth Rezende, declared that the development of the Basin is “the force that projects our city among the main business and investment bases focused on the energy market in Brazil and around the world.”

At a recent event, Alex Murteira, General Manager of the Business Unit for Exploration and Production of the Campos Basin, highlighted the importance of Macaé’s infrastructure.

“We not only have a glorious past but also a thriving present and a promising future. And together we will make a new page of success in this beautiful history that is the Campos Basin a reality.”

New Phase of Hiring

In light of projections for new job openings, which include positions without prior experience requirements, Petrobras and the Macaé City Hall have been discussing ways to facilitate local residents’ access to the job market.

The city hall’s efforts to qualify professionals who meet the company’s demands have been crucial for the project to advance.

The expectation is that this flexibility will allow more and more workers from Macaé to fill these new positions, boosting the city’s economic development.

As reported by the Macaé City Hall website, the goal is to benefit those who have already gone through the city hall’s qualification courses but who, until now, have faced difficulties in finding jobs due to lack of experience.

Celebrities and Tributes to Pioneers

During the event celebrating the 50 years of the Campos Basin, there were also tributes to the pioneers of the local oil industry, such as Alfeu Valença, former general manager of the Business Unit and former president of Petrobras.

According to Magda Chambriard, president of Petrobras, the collective effort of the workers was essential in ensuring the sector’s success and allowing the Campos Basin to become a pillar of economic development in Brazil.

Chambriard also emphasized that the future of oil and gas exploration in Brazil depends on a combination of innovation and research, especially in well revitalization activities.

“We have a lot of work ahead, and certainly, with everyone’s collaboration, we will build a more successful future for Petrobras, for the State, and for Brazil.”

Expectations for Macaé’s Economic Future

Looking ahead to the next five years, Petrobras intends to intensify its activities in the Campos Basin, focusing on deepwater exploration.

The new projects are expected to increase the company’s competitiveness in the global scenario while reinforcing Macaé as a reference in the sector.

The city, therefore, is not only the stage for the development of the energy market but also the protagonist of an economic revolution, creating thousands of jobs and enhancing national productive capacity.

In light of this transformation scenario, an important question arises: Will Petrobras really be able to fulfill its promise of 25,000 new jobs, meeting the expectations of thousands of Brazilians? Comment below what you think!
