Refineries Will Practice Price Reductions Starting Today, August 5th, and Petrobras Has Already Informed Sindigás
After ANP Approved the Non-Compulsory Sale of Cooking Gas Through Intermediaries, on the morning of this Monday (08/05), the new price of cooking gas (LPG) takes effect. Petrobras has reduced the price at refineries for distributors.
The price drop was, in the case of residential use, meaning 13-kilogram tanks that were R$ 26.20, now cost R$ 24.06, a decrease of 6.5% and 12%, and in the case of gas for industries and commerce, the reduction was 13%.
According to Sindigás (National Union of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Distribution Companies), the information came from Petrobras last Friday (08/02), and in a statement, the union reported that the premium charged by Petrobras is around 31% compared to what is practiced in the international market.
The statement also says, “This premium has been further pressuring the business costs that have liquefied petroleum gas among their main inputs, crucially impacting companies that operate with intensive use of LPG.”

Sindigás reported that the reduction of business LPG was between 11% and 17%, depending on the supply hub, and according to Petrobras, the price reduction was from 6.5% to 12% at refineries.
The reduction of LPG for industries and commerce also takes effect starting Monday.
Residential Gas vs Business Gas
The difference in percentage decreases in prices is due to the fact that for cooking gas to be sold in 13 kg tanks, the price is formed by the average of butane and propane gas quotations in the European market, plus a margin of 5%.
In January of last year, the price of LPG began to be adjusted quarterly.
It is worth noting that cooking gas (LPG) is sold in 13 kg tanks for residential use and in packages over 13 kg for business use.
According to Petrobras, the decrease in residential LPG will range from 6.5% to 12%, and the decrease in business LPG will range from 11% to 17%, depending on the supply hub.
