The oil company recently announced its interest in areas of post-salt and pre-salt in the Campos Basin, highlighting the geological and technical potentials of the region, which allow for an even promising future in the national and international oil and gas markets.
Emphasizing important facts about the Campos Basin, Petrobras reminded that the region currently contains approximately 280 producing wells and 25 offshore platforms in operation – producing in both post-salt and pre-salt. Currently, the region generates a volume of 800 thousand barrels per day, which represents 30% of all the oil produced in Brazil.

According to the state-owned company, the major revitalization plan for the Campos Basin outlined by the company is already underway, covering everything from intensification of exploratory campaigns in the pre-salt layer of that basin to interconnecting more than 100 wells to systems that are already in operation, new production projects in the coming years, extending the concession periods of world-class fields in our portfolio in that basin, among other efforts.
For the president of ACIM, the Commercial and Industrial Association of Macaé, Francisco Navega, this company’s positioning represents a new breath for the local economy.
“This message signed by Petrobras allows us to believe that the economy of Macaé will have a new path, thanks to the resumption of oil activities. This data reveals that there is still more time for offshore operations, with the development of new projects, which guarantees business opportunities for local companies and more jobs,” highlighted Navega.
About the Campos Basin
The Campos Basin is the main sedimentary area already explored on the Brazilian coast. It extends from the vicinity of the city of Vitória (ES) to Arraial do Cabo, on the northern coast of Rio de Janeiro, over an area of approximately 100 thousand square kilometers.
In this gigantic open-air laboratory, Petrobras tested the main offshore technologies. The Campos Basin began its offshore commercial production in Enchova.
