Petrobras Will Hire 1,780 Employees in 2025, Reinforcing Investments and Expanding Its Workforce. The Lula Government Aims to Transform the State-Owned Company into a Key Player in the National Economy.
Petrobras announced a significant increase in its workforce for 2025, consolidating a strategic movement that could directly impact the national economy.
The decision reflects a new guideline from the state-owned company, focused on resuming investments and expanding its operations across various sectors.
According to a statement released this Thursday (30), Petrobras will hire 1,780 new employees throughout 2025, with 700 professionals already called in the first half.

A Brazilian city gains a factory worth R$ 300 million with the capacity to process 200 thousand tons of wheat per year, a mill of 660 tons/day, silos for 42 thousand tons, and an industrial area of 276 thousand m².
The calls began on Wednesday (29) and are part of a selection process that has already taken place, which included candidates for technical positions.
This new contingent will add to the approximately 1,000 employees called throughout 2024, reinforcing the need to expand the company’s workforce to meet federal government demands.
The president of Petrobras, Magda Chambriard, emphasized that the expansion of the workforce plays a fundamental role in the company’s strategy for the coming years.
“I am confident that these employees called throughout 2025 will be essential for the new investment projects we will develop in different areas of Petrobras. We are committed to the company’s growth and the development of the country”, stated Chambriard.
Focus of Hiring and Impact on the Labor Market
The majority of the new hires will be allocated to the areas of Industrial Processes and Exploration and Production, essential sectors for the company’s plans.
The selection process also includes quotas of 20% for people with disabilities and 20% for Black individuals, reinforcing the commitment to inclusion and diversity in the workforce.
This movement represents a turnaround in Petrobras’ personnel policy. During previous administrations, the company adopted voluntary dismissal programs and drastically reduced the number of employees, focusing on asset sales and oil exploration in highly profitable areas.
Turnaround in Petrobras’ Policy Under the Lula Government
Since taking command of Petrobras in May 2024, Magda Chambriard has been following the guidance of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to strengthen the company’s presence in the national economy.
The government has encouraged the expansion of investments by the company, which is directly reflected in the increase in the number of employees.
“The hiring meets Petrobras’ needs at a time of resumption and expansion of investments in various regions of the country, having the commitment to Brazil as one of its values,” the company highlighted.
Furthermore, Lula has already indicated that his next trip will be to inaugurate Petrobras investments, reinforcing the strategic importance of the state-owned company for the federal government.
Sustainable Growth or Financial Challenge?
The big question arising from this expansion is whether Petrobras will be able to maintain sustainable growth without compromising its finances.
The state-owned company has faced difficult moments in the past, including corruption scandals and financial issues that led it to drastically reduce its workforce.
Now, with this new expansion strategy, the lingering question is: will it be a long-term movement or merely a momentary response to government policies?
The Impact on the Oil and Gas Sector
The oil and gas sector is one of the most strategic for Brazil, directly impacting the economy, job creation, and technological development.
Petrobras’ decision to increase its workforce may influence other companies in the sector to adopt similar policies, further boosting the market.
However, this expansion comes with challenges, such as the need to maintain competitiveness and operational efficiency.
What to Expect from the Future of Petrobras?
The increase in the workforce may signal a new cycle of growth for Petrobras, but it also raises questions about the challenges the company will face in the coming years.
