Curitiba Records Significant Progress in Renewable Energy with Unprecedented Performance of the Solar Pyramid, Which Expanded Photovoltaic Generation, Reduced Public Costs, and Strengthened Urban Sustainability Policies.
The Solar Pyramid of Curitiba achieved a historic record of solar energy generation in the last month of 2025, establishing itself as one of the main milestones of urban sustainability policy in Brazil. Located in the Caximba neighborhood, the photovoltaic plant recorded its highest monthly production since the start of operations, driven by the high solar irradiation index and the full operation of the system, according to data released by the City Hall on Monday (12).
Solar Pyramid of Curitiba Breaks Historic Record for Solar Energy Generation in December
Throughout the 31 days of December, the 8,600 photovoltaic panels installed at the Pyramid produced 636,695 kWh (kilowatt-hour), surpassing the previous record set in December 2023. The performance reinforces the strategic role of the Solar Pyramid of Curitiba in reducing public costs, increasing the use of renewable sources, and consolidating a million-dollar economy for municipal coffers.
The volume of energy produced in December 2025 represents a new historic record for the Solar Pyramid of Curitiba. The figure of 636,695 kWh exceeded the previous maximum production recorded two years earlier, when the plant generated 603,561 kWh in the same period.

Minas Gerais takes the lead in renewable energy: State surpasses historic mark of 14 GW in solar energy generation in MG and consolidates dominance in the Brazilian electric sector.
This growth is directly related to favorable climatic conditions, especially the higher solar irradiation index recorded in the last month of the year, along with the operational stability of the photovoltaic system. The result confirms the reliability of the installed infrastructure and the city’s capacity to harness its solar potential.
Solar Energy Generation Achieves Highest Monthly Result of the Curitiba More Energy Program
When analyzed collectively, the solar energy generation in Curitiba reached even more impressive figures. Combining the production from the Solar Pyramid of Curitiba with the solar terminals in Boqueirão, Santa Cândida, and Pinheirinho, the total generated in December reached 918,203 kWh.
This is the largest monthly volume since the creation of the Curitiba More Energy program, an initiative by City Hall aimed at increasing the use of renewable sources in public facilities. The performance reflects not only the rise in solar irradiation but also the expansion of the number of generating units in operation.
Annual Production Sets Historic Record and Reinforces the Role of Solar Energy
Throughout the entire year of 2025, the large photovoltaic units of the Curitiba City Hall achieved an unprecedented milestone. Total production reached 8,392,710 kWh, the largest annual volume ever recorded by the municipality.
In addition to the Solar Pyramid of Curitiba, the solar terminals, the Palácio 29 de Março (City Hall), the roof of the Quatro Estações Gallery at the Botanical Garden, and systems installed in municipal schools contributed to this result. This volume corresponds to approximately 52% of the average monthly energy consumption of public buildings, demonstrating the structural impact of solar energy generation on the municipal energy matrix.
Million-Dollar Savings Prove the Efficiency of the Solar Pyramid of Curitiba
Of the total energy generated in 2025, 97% was injected into the Copel network, allowing for compensation at the City Hall’s consumer units. Only a small portion was consumed directly by the generating units.
The financial result is significant. In total, 1,628 public buildings benefitted from photovoltaic energy, resulting in a million-dollar savings of R$ 5.1 million for municipal coffers. This amount reinforces the strategic nature of the Solar Pyramid of Curitiba as a public investment with high economic and environmental returns.
Million-Dollar Savings Allow for Strengthening Social and Environmental Policies
The resources saved from solar energy generation have been directed toward priority areas in the city. Part of the million-dollar savings obtained was used to subsidize free meals for the Solidarity Table program, in addition to strengthening Environmental Education actions, such as the Family Leaves project.
The energy produced by the Solar Pyramid of Curitiba also powered essential public facilities, such as Family Warehouses, Popular Restaurants, Family Grocery Stores, Citizenship Streets, and Municipal Guard modules. Thus, the benefits of clean energy extend directly to the population.
Solar Pyramid of Curitiba and the Municipality’s Climate Strategy
The Curitiba More Energy program integrates the Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Plan (PlanClima), which sets targets for emission reductions and seeks energy self-sufficiency. In this context, the Solar Pyramid of Curitiba plays a central role in the environmental strategy of the capital of Paraná.
According to the municipal Secretary for the Environment, Marilza Dias, the project demonstrates that the energy transition is feasible in large cities. The initiative helps to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions, positioning Curitiba as a reference in urban climate policies.
Environmental Education and Guided Tours Increase Population Engagement
In addition to energy and economic benefits, the Solar Pyramid of Curitiba also serves an educational role. Built on an old landfill, the plant is considered the largest in Latin America installed on such an area, symbolizing environmental recovery and urban innovation.
The free guided tours allow the public to learn more about the functioning of the plant and understand the benefits of solar energy generation. The next tour is scheduled for January 22 at 2:30 PM, with registrations open to the public.
A Milestone for Sustainability and Efficient Public Management
The historic record achieved by the Solar Pyramid of Curitiba in December 2025 represents more than a technical result. It shows that investments in solar energy generation can generate integrated environmental, social, and financial benefits.
The million-dollar savings, the reduction of emissions, the strengthening of public policies, and the engagement of the population solidify Curitiba as a reference in renewable energy in the public sector. The Pyramid stands as a symbol of planning, innovation, and commitment to a sustainable urban future.
