Honda, recognized as one of the global leaders in motorcycle manufacturing, now faces new and promising competition in the market. Emerging with an affordable motorcycle proposal, Mottu emerges as a potential threat to established brands. With an innovative model costing less than R$ 6 thousand, Mottu has already earned the title of new affordable motorcycle in Brazil, standing out for its impressive sales in January of this year.
This launch from Mottu represents a significant shift in the motorcycle market, challenging the supremacy of giants like Honda with a combination of affordability and quality, thus captivating a broad consumer base.

For those who may not know, Mottu is a motorcycle rental and logistics startup. The company was founded in 2020 with the mission to meet the demand for a simpler and more accessible motorcycle rental service, bringing a new affordable motorcycle.
It is important to highlight that, due to its demand, Mottu produced its own model of affordable motorcycle for cargo transportation, making it a nightmare for Honda and Yamaha. However, those who do not wish to buy a new motorcycle but rather rent should be alert, as they can still rent a model for R$ 6 thousand to earn up to R$ 3 thousand at iFood.
New Affordable Motorcycle Can Deliver 65 km per Liter
Licensed in Brazil by the Indian TVS exclusively for the motorcycle rental company for delivery riders, the Moto Sport 110i is produced in Brazil at Dafra’s factory in Manaus, and then all units are registered and rented to the startup’s clients.
The ‘budget’ motorcycle features a 109.7 cm³ engine capacity with electronic fuel injection and air cooling, capable of delivering 8.3 horsepower at 7,350 rpm and 0.8 kgfm of torque at 4,500 rpm. It works in conjunction with a 4-speed manual transmission, a 10-liter gasoline tank, and according to data from TVS, it can reach a top speed of 90 km/h and achieve a range of up to 650 km.
According to a survey by Fenabrave, the new ‘budget’ motorcycle occupies 6th place in the motorcycle registration ranking in the first half of 2024, trailing only Honda models and ahead of Yamaha, which appears only in 8th place with the FZ25.
The motorcycle has a very simple design, similar to the Honda Pop 110i, which also has units rented by the company. The brakes are drum brakes on both wheels and have a combined activation.
Mottu Raises Nearly R$ 250 Million
The motorcycle rental company closed a funding round in September of last year, raising US$ 50 million (around R$ 250 million). The round was led by the American firm QED, which has also invested in Brazilian companies like Creditas and QuintoAndar, and by Bicycle, marking the first investment from the fund created by Marcelo Claure, former Softbank, in partnership with the Arab fund Mubadala.
The capital from 2022 fueled Mottu to currently have 48,000 motorcycles rented in Brazil and Mexico, and the new resources will help bring green and black motorcycles to other locations, increase operational investment, and attract a new customer profile.
