Those looking from the outside might doubt it, but the HONDA FIT 1.5 VTEC is indeed one of the most fun models in the Fit lineup. We are talking about a version that, even launched in 2007, manages to deliver above-average performance among compact cars and still retains all the modularity that made the HONDA FIT one of the most versatile cars in Brazil.

And we’re not talking about a real sports car, one with a turbo or lowered suspension. But within the Fit family, this 1.5 VTEC model offers a different appeal: more torque, more power, and, of course, much more driving pleasure. All of this without giving up comfort and fuel efficiency, a trademark of Honda.

The Engine That Makes the Difference

Let’s get straight to the point: the main difference of the HONDA FIT 1.5 VTEC is the heart that beats under the hood. Unlike the 1.4 version, which delivers 80 horsepower and 11 kgfm of torque, the 1.5 VTEC model arrives with a respectable 105 horsepower and 14.2 kgfm of torque. It may seem small in absolute numbers, but the performance difference is noticeable in day-to-day driving.

Moreover, the car weighs only 1,075 kg. In other words, we have a very interesting power-to-weight ratio for a compact model: about 10 kg per horsepower. This makes the HONDA FIT 1.5 VTEC agile, responsive, and, why not say, fun to drive. Especially if you’re lucky enough to find one with a manual transmission, which extracts even more from Honda’s rev-happy engine.

CVT Transmission: Comfort With a Touch of Sportiness

The automatic version comes with a CVT transmission, which, although not as exciting as the manual, pairs well with the car’s proposal. In “S” (Sport) mode, it holds the revs up high, delivering quicker accelerations and a more responsive behavior. In “D” mode, it prioritizes fuel efficiency, resulting in good numbers: about 11 km/l in the city and up to 16 km/l on the highway.

It’s worth noting: we’re talking about a model launched nearly 20 years ago. In 2007, that was practically unattainable for many 1.0 competitors. The HONDA FIT 1.5 VTEC managed to combine performance and fuel efficiency, without losing the smoothness of the setup.

This transforms the car into a true urban van, with a cargo capacity of nearly 2,500 liters with the seats down.

Besides the versatile layout, the car features details that show Honda’s attention to detail: seats that lift like armchairs, well-positioned cup holders, a functional center console, and a trunk of 353 liters. All of this makes the HONDA FIT 1.5 VTEC an ideal car for both the city and small moves.

Finishing and Comfort: Simple But Honest

There’s no luxury here, but there is good taste. The finishing of the HONDA FIT 1.5 VTEC mixes pleasant fabrics with hard (and durable) plastics. Nothing sophisticated, but also nothing that compromises. The ergonomics are good, the steering wheel has height adjustment, and all controls are easy to access, showcasing the project’s intelligence.

In terms of safety, we have dual front airbags and ABS brakes, something that already put the model a step ahead of the competition in 2007. There are no stability or traction controls, nor modern infotainment systems, but the car’s proposal is different: to be reliable, functional, and economical.

And How Is the Behavior on the Road?

On the road, the HONDA FIT 1.5 VTEC shows its peppy side. The engine revs smoothly, and even with the CVT, the car responds well. It’s not a rocket, but it also isn’t slow. Overtaking and accelerations are easy, and the light steering helps with precision.

At cruising speeds, the transmission keeps the revs low, ensuring comfort and efficiency. The suspension, despite being simple, is well-tuned for Brazilian asphalt, filtering imperfections effectively and offering stability for a tall, lightweight car.

The HONDA FIT 1.5 VTEC is the ideal middle ground between practicality and fun. It doesn’t aim to be a real sports car, but it delivers performance far superior to the traditional Fit 1.4, without sacrificing comfort, modularity, and the brand’s reliability.
