The Potássio do Brasil company is investing heavily in sustainable engineering solutions for its potash mining project in Autazes, in the Amazon region, the Potássio Autazes project. The company will use a exploration of ore without degrading the mines and a Silvinite extraction method that promises not to cause damage to the soil, thus contributing to the adoption of ESG practices in the mining industry.

The mining market is increasingly focused on adopting more sustainable practices, ESG, and seeks to innovate in technologies and operational solutions to make the production chain even more efficient.
Now, it is the turn of the potassium exploration company, Potássio do Brasil, to invest in the so-called sustainable engineering, which will allow the minimization of environmental damage in the mining of the resource in the Amazon region, in the Potássio Autazes project.

The Autazes Potassium Project will explore potassium mines without degrading nature using engineering and technology in favor of sustainability and will be the company's big bet for the coming years.
This is because new techniques will be used to extract Silvinite, a rock composed of Halite (Sodium Chloride, the famous Kitchen Salt) and Silvita fertilizer (Potassium Chloride), without compromising the soil in the mines. In addition, there will be no deforestation activities during the exploitation of potassium in the Amazon region, contributing to environmental preservation.
The president of Potássio do Brasil, Adriano Espeschit, commented on the project and highlighted that “Sustainability is using engineering properly. What we're going to do is pure engineering. We will use technology in favor of sustainability. Therefore, it will be extremely sustainable mining”, in addition to explaining the sodium chloride storage process: “The Sodium Chloride will be stored in an impermeable place, so that the soil and the water table are not contaminated, and then it will return underground, filling the open chambers, that is, there will be no residue on the surface at the end of the Project's life”.
Potássio Autazes Project will not cause damage to the region's native vegetation and will enable more sustainable mining
In addition to not causing damage to the soil with the new method of extracting ores, the Potássio Autazes project will also not collaborate with the deforestation of native areas in the Amazon region. This is because the manufacturing plant will be installed in a place that has already been used for other activities, such as pasture and cattle raising, thus aiming to minimize the environmental impact caused by the exploitation of potassium in mining in the Amazon.
Despite this, the company's sustainable mining projects will not be limited to this initiative, since Potássio do Brasil will have to reforest an area ten times larger than the one it will occupy on the surface and has already distributed more than 20 plant seedlings to the municipality of Autazes.
Thus, the company will be able to exploit the ore with productive efficiency and environmental commitment over the next few years.
The Potássio Autazes project is currently in the environmental licensing phase, including discussions with the Mura de Autazes and Careiro da Várzea indigenous people, which was launched in 2019, and the company hopes to be able to take it forward in the coming months, to invest in mining amazonense.
