Singapore Creates the World’s Most Expensive ‘Car Vending Machine’ Where Each Elevator Carries a Million-Dollar Supercar

Imagine choosing a luxury car like buying a bottle of water. In Singapore, this is a reality. The dealership Autobahn Motors has created a 15-story tower that serves as a vending machine for vehicles, a futuristic building where FerrarisLamborghinis and Porsches are stacked like jewels in a glass display.

The buyer touches a screen on the ground floor, and within minutes, a robotic system brings the desired car to the ground.

The Building That Transformed Luxury Cars into Spectacle

Located at 20 Jln Kilang in Singapore, the structure was inaugurated at the end of 2016 and presented to the world in 2017 by Reuters.

The tower displays 60 vehicles simultaneously in glass compartments, operating as a massive vertical showroom.

The goal is simple: to make use of the scarce space in the city while creating an unforgettable visual experience.

The general manager of the company, Gary Hong, explained to Reuters that the idea arose from a practical need: “We needed to store many cars but wanted to do it in a creative and innovative way.” The result is a building that looks like it came out of a science fiction movie — and has indeed become a tourist attraction.

Customer Chooses the Car on a Touchscreen and, in One to Two Minutes, the Vehicle is Delivered to the Ground by an Elevator

The operation is fully automated. The customer chooses the car on a touchscreen and, in one to two minutes, the vehicle is delivered to the ground by a central elevator, a type of “fish-bone lift system” similar to those used in high-precision warehouses.

The entire process is coordinated by sensors and alignment systems that ensure no wheel touches the glass walls during the descent.

The design of the tower is so efficient that it has been deemed one of the most ingenious architectural solutions ever applied to the urban automotive market.

Each floor is adjusted in height to accommodate sports cars or luxury sedans, and the system can move cars weighing up to 2.5 tons with complete stability.

The most interesting part is that, although the building is called an “automatic vending machine,” the purchasing process is not completely instant.

After viewing and selecting the vehicle, the commercial transaction still follows the conventional procedures of a dealership. Even so, the concept sells well because of the futuristic experience it offers.

Why Singapore?

To understand why this model emerged specifically in Singapore, it’s essential to remember that the country has one of the highest land costs in the world.

Building horizontally is practically unfeasible. Moreover, owning a car there is a luxury in itself: to drive, the owner must purchase a Certificate of Entitlement (COE), which can cost more than the car itself.

This licensing system limits the fleet and makes luxury cars a coveted rarity. According to the portal OneShift, only 29 Ferraris and 18 Lamborghinis were sold in the country in 2024.

Despite this, the passion for supercars remains strong, and Autobahn Motors capitalizes on this scarcity to provide a stage worthy of these million-dollar machines.

The dealership operates with both new and used cars, catering to an audience ranging from collectors to investors.

The vertical showcase has become a postcard: tourists and curious onlookers visit just to see the sports cars being moved like expensive toys in a glass capsule.

A Luxury Market in Uncertain Times

Despite a drop in premium vehicle sales following a money laundering scandal reported by the Financial Times, the segment remains relevant.

In 2023, Singapore was still the fourth-largest Asian market for high-end cars per capita.

Brands like Porsche and Bentley maintain waiting lists and invest in hybrid and electric formats to navigate environmental restrictions.

The Autobahn Motors building remains active and functional today, according to updates from the 911Supercars website.

There are reports of visitors describing the system as “hypnotizing,” a mechanical spectacle where luxury and technology meet in almost poetic form.

Vertical Showroom is the Subject of Documentaries

More than just selling cars, the vending machine of Autobahn Motors has become an icon of urban innovation.

In a city where space and time are scarce resources, the building encapsulates the spirit of Singapore: technology, efficiency, and design.

The glass tower is now a symbol of Asian creativity in adapting luxury to the reality of a compact metropolis.

Gary Hong often says that the goal is not just to sell, but to inspire. “We wanted people to look at our building and think: ‘this is different, this is Singapore.’” And they succeeded.

The vertical showroom has become the subject of documentaries, viral videos on YouTube and social media posts that total millions of views.

The project has also influenced dealerships in other countries, especially in the Middle East and China, which have begun to study vertical automated display formats.

Luxury, Engineering, and Spectacle

As the world discusses the future of mobility, Autobahn Motors has demonstrated that the way to sell can also be revolutionary. The combination of automotive engineeringsmart architecture and visual marketinghas transformed the car-buying experience into an emotional one.

The building is not just a place to acquire a vehicle; it is a showcase of the future, where every elevator movement serves as a reminder of how technology can make luxury even more theatrical.
