During last Monday, (11/21), the mayor of Macaé, Welberth Rezende (CIDADANIA), received the Norwegian consul general in Rio de Janeiro, Mai Tonheim, for discussions on the city’s fuel market. The main objective of the City Hall of Macaé is to invest in renewable energy and enable the development of projects that utilize natural gas as the main energy source. This way, the city could harness its high energy production potential over the coming years.

To this end, the city government met with the Norwegian consul, Mai Tonheim, earlier this week and discussed the feasibility of developing projects in this segment.
Additionally, already established projects in the region, such as the Marlim Azul Thermoelectric Plant (UTE) and the Vagflex Natural Gas Processing Unit (UPGN), were also on the agenda during the meeting.
The main objective of the City Hall of Macaé is to take advantage of the boosting oil and natural gas industry scenario to promote growth in the energy sector.
“We have worked hard on streamlining our processes to meet, with agility and responsibility, the demand from entrepreneurs investing in various economic segments, especially in the oil, gas, and energy sector,” evaluated Welberth Rezende.
The mayor of the Fluminense city also emphasized that one of the main goals of his administration is to invest in projects that can attract more sustainability to the region.
Thus, the meeting with the Norwegian consul was also responsible for discussions on how this would be carried out over the coming years, with the support of the European country’s government.
Norwegian Consul Highlighted That the Meeting Was Important to Bring Closer Relations Between the City Hall of Macaé and Companies from the European Country
The mayor of Macaé stated that the city’s authority has been learning a lot from the local companies about utilizing natural resources for investments in renewable energy.
Thus, the city hall also intends to boost energy production projects, but now focusing on the use of natural gas in these ventures.
Meanwhile, the Norwegian consul commented that this was an important moment for the country to learn more about the projects under development in the city and to strengthen relations with the Fluminense region.
“We have a long-standing cooperation with Brazil. We are facing the green transition process together and want to work together in this new phase, discussing projects and technologies aimed at renewable energy,” said Mai Tonheim.
Furthermore, the Secretary of Economic Development, Labor, and Income of Macaé, Rodrigo Vianna, stated that the city currently has an expected value of 25 billion reais in private investments for energy transition projects.
With all these discussions about using natural gas as an energy source and developing new projects, the City Hall of Macaé expects a good collaboration with Norway in the coming years.
