Figure 02: Humanoid Robot Becomes Smarter and with ‘Human-Like Hands’
Have you heard about Figure 02? If not, it’s time to pay attention. This humanoid robot is making waves in the tech world. Developed by Figure AI, a California startup that emerged in 2022, it represents a significant technological leap and is not just another sci-fi toy.
Figure AI may be a newcomer to the market, but it has already made quite a splash. In just two years, the company has managed to raise an impressive US$ 675 million. This money was used to create Figure 01, a robot that attracted so much attention that even BMW decided to order a few units for its production lines.
However, as technology doesn’t stop, Figure AI is already looking ahead with Figure 02, which promises to be even more revolutionary. Let’s see what changes in this new version.

What Changes in Figure 02
Engineers at Figure AI claim that Figure 02 underwent a complete overhaul, both in hardware and software. This includes significant improvements in Artificial Intelligence systems, computer vision, battery, electronic components, sensors, and actuators. In other words, it’s an even smarter and more efficient robot.
Among the new features are onboard microphones and speakers, allowing for individual conversations with humans. This is made possible thanks to the customized AI model, trained in collaboration with OpenAI. In other words, you can talk to the robot and even give it specific commands, as long as it has been trained for that.
Another highlight is the vision language model, which allows the robot to understand what its cameras capture and make decisions based on that. Speaking of cameras, Figure 02 has six RGB cameras that view the world from different angles, along with a threefold increase in computational power. And the cherry on top? A new custom battery that promises 50% more performance and durability.
More Attractive and with Almost Human Hands
It’s not just on the inside that Figure 02 stands out. The design has also undergone significant improvements. Out goes the chrome metal of Figure 01 and in comes an elegant matte black. The internal wiring? It’s gone.
The highlight, however, is the hands. Engineers worked hard to make them visually similar to human hands, but they didn’t stop there. They genuinely try to simulate the strength and flexibility of our hands, allowing the robot to perform a wide range of tasks similar to those we humans do.
What’s Coming Next
Figure AI has not revealed all the details about Figure 02, but it’s clear that it promises a lot. And if BMW is already interested in the first model, we can expect this new version to be a success as well.
