The Dussafu area contains five pre-salt oil discoveries and contains several additional prospects and leads

BW Offshore reported on Monday that the first oil extraction from the BW Adolo FPSO was safely achieved on September 16, 2018, 18 months after the initial investment was made in the Dussafu license, offshore Gabon. “We got the first oil from the Dussafu license on budget and on time,” said Carl K. Arnet, CEO of BW Offshore. “The execution of the Dussafu project confirms the attractiveness of our model by combining proven resources, a resourceful organization and access to production assets to achieve a short period to oil.”

Adolo's FPSO had previously worked on the Azurite field, but was later selected by BW for the development of Tortue. The FPSO unit was readied to be deployed to Tortue by a Keppel shipyard in Singapore and officially named FPSO BW Adolo in early April.

The BW Adolo arrived in Gabon at the end of July and connected the mooring systems, and the installation of risers and umbilicals was completed in September.

The FPSO is installed in the Tortue field, one of the five proven discoveries in the Dussafu license. The BW Adolo is a converted VLCC with a production capacity of 40.000 barrels of oil per day. The vessel has undergone an increased scope of life extension, enabling an expanded production profile based on positive reserve developments.

Arnet said the priority now is to complete start-up activities and stabilize production at BW Adolo.

He added: “At the same time, we will work towards the final investment decision on Tortue Phase 2, which will unlock additional production volumes, and will continue with the evaluation program of the recently announced discovery at Ruche NE, as well as to confirm additional resources and strengthen the commerciality of the Dussafu license,” said Carl K. Arnet.

Dussafu is an 850 square kilometer Exclusive Exploration Area (“EEA”) located in southern Gabon. The area is valid for 20 years from the first oil production. It contains 5 pre-salt oil discoveries and contains several additional prospects and leads. Dussafu is operated by BW Energy and Panoro Energy holds an 8,333% stake.

The development concept involves an actual phase 1 consisting of two horizontal wells connected to FPSO BW Adolo.

Further announcements will be made in due course regarding production and planning rates for Tortue Phase 2. In addition, the recently successful well at Ruche North East is currently being evaluated following a sidetrack and extensive logging. Results will be announced in the near future, Panoro said.
