Chevrolet Halts Production of Onix and Onix Plus at Factory in Brazil Due to Accumulation of 19 Thousand Vehicles.

Due to the significant accumulation of 19 thousand vehicles and problems resulting from heavy rains in Rio Grande do Sul, Chevrolet has decided to temporarily suspend production of the Onix and Onix Plus models in the country. This measure has already been previously adopted by General Motors regarding its compact line in Brazil this year.

As reported by Automotive Business, the resumption of production for the Onix and Onix Plus models is set to begin on May 7. It is important to highlight that both models are exported to various markets from Brazil.

Factory Yard Where Chevrolet Onix Are Produced Has a Stock of 19 Thousand Vehicles

Currently, the factory yard located in Gravataí, where the Chevrolet Onix models are produced, has a stock of 19 thousand vehicles ready for delivery, which corresponds to approximately a month and a half of production. The Brazilian demand for these models ranges from 10 to 18 thousand units per month, depending on market conditions.

The Gravataí plant is exclusive for the production of Onix and Onix Plus, with an annual capacity of 380 thousand units. Currently, the factory operates with an adjusted annual production of 180 thousand cars. It is relevant to note that the one-day stoppage is also related to the severe rains affecting the region, causing several companies to halt their operations.

Chevrolet Will Invest R$ 7 Billion in Brazil to Update Entire Onix Line by 2028

Another crucial aspect to mention is the investment announced by Chevrolet of R$ 7 billion in Brazil to update its entire line by 2028. This investment will include the anticipated aesthetic update of the Onix and Onix Plus models.

The models will receive updates to the front and rear, along with improvements in the interiors with higher-quality finishes. They will feature a fully digital instrument panel, which will be visually integrated with the multimedia center. These screens will be the same used in the 2025 Spin model, which was recently updated.

Additionally, there are speculations that the 1.0 three-cylinder turbo engine will receive direct injection, providing more power and efficiency. Currently, this is the only three-cylinder 1.0 turbo engine with indirect injection available in Brazil by Chevrolet. An update of the six-speed automatic transmission is also anticipated.

I would love to know if you have an Onix or if you are considering buying one. Share your experience with the brand in the comments section. Don’t forget to enable notifications from CPG to keep up with all the latest news in the automotive world. Until next time!
