Imagine a Scenario Where Public School Teachers Have the Opportunity to Advance Their Academic Careers at No Cost, Contributing to the Improvement of Education in Brazil. This Dream Is About to Become a Reality.

In an unprecedented action, the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) launched a program that promises to revolutionize the training of basic education teachers.

CAPES announces the largest offer of graduate spots in its history, providing 6,775 spots in professional master’s and doctoral courses for public school teachers.

This historic initiative is part of the Stricto Sensu Graduate Program for Qualification of Public Basic Education Teachers (ProEB), which aims to qualify and value the educators who play a fundamental role in teaching children and adolescents across the country.

According to CAPES, this offer not only marks a record but also represents a significant advancement for Brazilian education.

An Unprecedented Advancement in Education

The announcements for the selection of candidates will be published later this month, and classes are scheduled to start in early 2025.

ProEB, created in 2011, has already trained 16,900 teachers and aims to contribute to the development of new pedagogical strategies and solutions for the challenges faced in schools and society.

CAPES will allocate 6,659 spots for the professional master’s degree in 12 areas of knowledge: Mathematics, Physics, Literature, Arts, History, Biology, Chemistry, Philosophy, Sociology, Physical Education, Geography, and Inclusive Education.

Additionally, 116 spots will be offered in the professional doctorate in History. This diversity of areas reflects CAPES’s commitment to addressing the various demands of basic education, promoting continuous training that seeks to integrate theory and practice.

The courses are offered by a national network of renowned public universities, responsible for teaching in over 300 higher education institutions spread across the five regions of Brazil.

This partnership also includes collaboration with scientific societies from different fields, which further enrich the program with their knowledge and expertise.

A Network of Excellence for Teacher Training

According to CAPES, the participation of public universities and scientific societies is crucial to ensure the quality and scope of the program.

The network of partner institutions is selected based on rigorous criteria of academic excellence and experience in teacher training, ensuring that participants receive a high-quality education.

To facilitate teachers’ access to courses, CAPES grants scholarships to up to 30% of participants, allowing more educators to dedicate themselves to improving their skills without financial concerns.

According to the organization, this strategy aims not only to improve teacher training but also to encourage the production of innovative teaching materials and practical solutions for everyday challenges in schools.

Valuation of the Teacher

According to the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel, valuing teachers is fundamental for the progress of education in Brazil. The courses offered by ProEB are a way to recognize the essential work performed by these professionals and to promote their academic and professional growth.

The offer of a record number of spots in graduate programs is an important step in this process, as it provides teachers with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and contribute to the improvement of teaching quality in their communities.

CAPES emphasizes that this initiative is a milestone in the history of Brazilian education, demonstrating a continuous commitment to the development of the professionals who shape the country’s future.

With so many opportunities for growth and development, will we see a significant transformation in the quality of education in public schools in the coming years? Share your opinions in the comments below!
