The matter (PDL 651/2019) is going to be enacted. The author of the favorable report on the text in the Foreign Relations Committee (CRE), Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (without party-RJ) emphasized, during the voting of the project in the Plenary, that the measure ends the insecurity in the cruise sector.

“The Senate opens another window of opportunities, creating jobs with foreign companies that will have more legal security to operate cruises along the Brazilian coast” defended the senator on Tuesday, December 12.

In the CRE, the report was presented by the committee’s president, Senator Nelsinho Trad (PSD-MS). He explained that the convention deals with decent working conditions for those who work in navigation, regulating issues such as paid vacation, safety and health, minimum working age, recruitment, minimum working hours and rest, accommodation conditions, food, leisure facilities, well-being, and social protection.

“This convention is of utmost importance in this increasingly globalized world. It reinforces the application of labor standards at all levels, through the inclusion of processes for workers’ complaints, in addition to favoring the oversight of shipowners and officials regarding conditions aboard their vessels” defended Nelsinho.

The president of the CRE also emphasized that Brazil’s adherence to the new version of the Convention on Maritime Labor should expedite and facilitate the movement of vessels flying the Brazilian flag in international ports.

“It signifies a new commitment from the Brazilian government to promote decent work for all categories of workers in the sector, whether they are nationals or foreigners”, concluded Nelsinho.
