With an Investment of R$ 23 Million, the Water in the Field Program Expands the Reach of Well Drilling in Paraná, Benefiting Rural Communities and Strengthening Regional Water Security
The Water in the Field Program has entered a new phase of expansion in Paraná, after the State Government announced the delivery of new drilling equipment that will double its operational capacity, according to an article published.
The investment of R$ 23 million will allow the number of tubular wells constructed per year to increase from 150 to 300, expanding service to rural communities throughout Paraná.
The initiative, led by the Water and Land Institute (IAT), was presented at a ceremony at the Iguaçu Palace, with the presence of Vice Governor Darci Piana.

With only 1% of Brazil’s territory, Santa Catarina has built one of the most competitive industrial parks in the country, with 64,000 companies, nearly 1 million jobs, and a growth rate of 5.3% while the national industry is practically stagnant.
The advancement represents an important boost to water infrastructure, ensuring quality water for household use, irrigation, and agro-industrial activities in regions where scarcity is still a challenge.
Expansion of Well Drilling and Impact on Rural Communities
With the arrival of three new convoys, composed of seven specialized trucks, the Water in the Field Program significantly increases the depth and reach of the drilling.
Two sets can reach up to 500 meters, while the third reaches 250 meters. This modernization will allow service to about 300 rural communities per year, doubling the current number.
According to the president of IAT, Everton Souza, the program plays an essential role in providing high-quality groundwater to remote areas, improving domestic water supply and rural production.
“With this new structure, thousands of families in Paraná will have guaranteed access to potable water,” he stated.
The project also helps to reduce rural exodus and strengthen the sustainability of small agricultural properties, ensuring the continuity of local agricultural activities.
Water Sustainability and Efficient Management of the Water and Land Institute
The Water in the Field Program also reinforces Paraná’s commitment to water sustainability and the rational management of natural resources.
The IAT will be responsible not only for the operation of the drilling machines but also for delivering complete kits containing pumps, cables, control panels, and reservoirs with capacities ranging from 10,000 to 20,000 liters.
Municipal governments shall provide construction materials and land for the installation of the wells, in a partnership that ensures agility and efficiency.
The program manager, Ronye Pascoalotto, explains that the arrival of new equipment will meet longstanding demands from municipalities in the West and Northwest regions, many of which have been hindered by lack of infrastructure.
“With the new fleet, we will be able to drill in hard-to-reach areas and find water more quickly,” he says.
The team of professionals dedicated to the project will also be expanded, increasing the operational capacity of the IAT and the quality of service provided to the communities.

Water in the Field Program: Public Investment and Strengthening State Water Security
The investment of R$ 23 million made by the State Government for the Water in the Field Program is considered strategic within the sustainable development plan carried out by the state administration.
In addition to the new drilling trucks, the government delivered 50 trucks and announced the renewal of a contract for a helicopter dedicated exclusively to environmental inspection activities in the 21 regions of the IAT.
According to Vice Governor Darci Piana, these actions reinforce Governor Ratinho Júnior’s commitment to ensuring modern and efficient infrastructure for the countryside.
The state secretary for Sustainable Development, Rafael Greca, emphasized that the project has relevant social and environmental reach, ensuring supply even during drought periods and contributing to the preservation of rivers and springs.
Since 2019, the program has already drilled approximately 700 wells in 167 municipalities, with investments totaling R$ 10.4 million, reflecting the continuity of public policies aimed at water security and strengthening rural communities.
The wells drilled by the program comply with rigorous environmental and technical standards. Each well is tested for flow, chemical quality, and bacteriological safety before being handed over to the responsible municipality, ensuring safe and potable water for human and agricultural use.
In the Water in the Field Program, the authorization process is done via the Environmental and Water Resources Management Information System (SIGARH), which centralizes requests and permits for the use of groundwater in the state.
