Mataripe Refinery Launches Environmental App That Reduces Inspection Time by 75% and Improves Environmental Indicators by Integrating Seven Monitoring Systems.
The Mataripe Refinery, managed by Acelen, launched a new environmental app that promises to revolutionize operational efficiency in managing environmental issues. This pioneering initiative in the oil and gas sector has achieved a reduction of up to 75% in the time required to conduct inspections and make decisions, reflecting significant improvements in environmental indicators.
The environmental app from Mataripe Refinery integrates seven different monitoring systems, allowing for a more comprehensive and rapid analysis. This new technology not only accelerates processes but also provides more accurate data, facilitating decision-making. More than just a simple innovation, this tool sets a new standard for the industry.
Acelen, an innovative company in the refining sector, launched a new environmental app. This environmental app is a pioneering initiative in the oil and gas sector, designed to optimize processes and facilitate decision-making. Its use has resulted in a 75% reduction in the time spent on environmental rounds, increasing the effectiveness of actions and the reliability of operations.
Technology in Favor of the Environment
This environmental app integrates at least seven inspection systems of the company into a single technological solution, ensuring greater accuracy in monitoring. The use of this app is part of the MonitorAcelen initiatives, one of the eight digital transformation programs of the company. These programs are essential to minimize environmental impacts in the refinery operations.

One of the most notable benefits is the high environmental and economic performance achieved through the application of operational technology. Since Acelen’s management began in 2021, based on the principles of Industry 4.0, the refinery has undergone the largest modernization in its history. Daniel Rocha, Acelen’s Environmental Manager, highlights that the environmental technician can photograph potential risks in the industrial area in real-time, notify responsible parties, and generate follow-up protocols, which implies more effective decision-making. The company has promoted a fusion of sustainability, digitization, and acceleration in its operations.
Efficient Data Application
Since its implementation eight months ago, this tool has already contributed to a 75% reduction in the time allocated to environmental rounds, providing financial benefits and agility in internal actions. One of the main functionalities of the environmental app is to provide accurate data on the location and intensity of occurrences, facilitating quick and effective responses from those responsible. This solution was built using agile methodologies and is hosted on PDA devices (Personal Digital Assistants), with GPS functionality ensuring secure communication regardless of network connection.
Celso Ferreira, Acelen’s Vice President of Operations, emphasizes that the app focuses on prevention and best practices, reinforcing the synergy between innovation and operational gains. He also emphasizes that implementing pioneering initiatives is routine for Acelen’s teams. ‘This could not be different in environmental protection, where the time between identification and action is crucial to minimize impacts. I congratulate the entire Acelen team for creating an effective method that elevates our environmental care to a higher level. ESG in the veins is the DNA of Acelen’, concludes the executive.
Environmental and Technological Commitments
About Acelen, the energy company of Mubadala Capital aims to be an important player in the energy transition. In less than three years in Bahia, taking over the management of Mataripe Refinery, the company has already invested over R$ 2 billion in the revitalization and recovery of the industrial plant. This was the largest modernization program undertaken at the refinery, focused on safety, automation, reliability, efficiency, and productive diversification, in addition to improving environmental indicators, water and energy efficiency.
Reaffirming its commitment to the environment, in July of this year, Acelen announced a joint venture for the construction of a 161MW solar complex in the semi-arid region of Bahia. The company is also developing the country’s largest renewable fuel project, aimed at producing SAF and HVO from macaúba, thereby strengthening its role in the energy transition.
