The Environmental Company Of The State Of São Paulo – Cetesb fined Revap (Henrique Lage Refinery), a Petrobras unit located in the eastern area of São José dos Campos, R$ 198.9 for environmental damage, caused by the fire that broke out on the last Sunday of September, which occurred in the tank reservoir storing products used in the preparation of asphalt and fuel oil.
According to Cetesb, the product (recycle gas oil), derived from oil refining, reached the soil and vegetation around the containment dike of the storage tanks and the stormwater drainage galleries, causing harm to flora and fauna, in addition to inconveniences for the population.

The leak caused a fire in one of Revap’s tanks, and the flames were only contained after six and a half hours of efforts by the Fire Department and firefighters, requiring the work of 12 vehicles and 29 military firefighters as well as 20 firefighters from 10 companies in the Vale do Paraíba.

The accident is also being investigated by the Vale do Paraíba nucleus of Gaema (Special Task Group for Environmental Defense), an agency of the Public Ministry.
The civil inquiry, signed by prosecutor Laerte Fernando Levai, was opened based on a report from a resident.
In the text, the prosecutor also mentions reports that the fire may be linked to a leak recorded days before the flames.
In addition to determining the causes of the fire, the prosecution will investigate which substances were released into the atmosphere by the dark smoke, as well as any potential damage to soil and groundwater.
There is no deadline for the conclusion of the inquiry. The emission of polluting gases by Revap is the subject of another inquiry by the Public Ministry.
Revap stated that it has not yet been notified of the fine imposed by Cetesb.
