In This List Of National Refineries, You Will Find Even Addresses And Contact Phone Numbers

Although not widely disclosed, there are indeed many refineries in Brazil, and few people know about them. Some even produce rare petroleum derivatives, while others are so colossal that they account for nearly 80% of the national inputs. Now, with a new rush to transport the pre-salt production from the Santos Basin deposits, some units will begin to resume construction or increase the production rate of the existing refineries.

First, watch the video below on how the oil refining process works and then see which refineries are located in Brazil.

RNEST

RNEST (Abreu e Lima Refinery) is located at the Suape Port Industrial Complex, about 45 km from Recife-PE. It can operate independently in two refining systems, being able to use different productivity systems for each type of oil. For example: LPG, petroleum coke, naphtha, Diesel S-10, and fuel oil.

Potiguar Clara Camarão

The Potiguar Clara Camarão refinery located in Rio Grande do Norte is the only one that is self-sufficient because it can produce all petroleum derivatives and its most primary form. Its major highlights since 2010 are the production of automotive gasoline, aviation kerosene, and petrochemical naphtha. Its current hydrocarbon processing capacity is 6,000 cubic meters of derivatives per day.

Comperj

Although construction has been halted since 2015, with 85% of the work completed, Comperj will be taken over by a new company starting in July 2017. The aim will be to transport the pre-salt production, and this petrochemical hub located in the city of Itaboraí-RJ is at a strategic point. It will process about 165 thousand barrels of crude oil per day, and its derivatives will be the most diverse, including cooking gas, gasoline, diesel, and other products.

RLAM

RLAM (Landulpho Alves Refinery) is special because it was the national pioneer in Brazilian refining and began its operations in 1950. Known as the largest petrochemical complex on the southern side of the planet, this refinery is located in Camaçari in the Recôncavo da Bahia. In addition to refining almost all types of oil, this refinery is the only one capable of producing a type of paraffin used in chocolates, chewing gums, and detergents. Its processing capacity is about 323 thousand barrels per day.

Lubnor

The Northeast Lubricants and Derivatives Refinery (Lubnor) in Fortaleza-CE is special because it leads in the production of raw materials for asphalt and special lubricants used in transformers, vehicle shock absorbers, and pneumatic systems. The majority of the oil it uses comes from ES and CE, with 62% of it going entirely for asphalt use, while the remainder is for lubricants. It can process 8 thousand barrels per day.

Recap

The Capuava Refinery (Recap) is located in the metropolis of São Paulo and produces about 30% of its fuel for self-consumption. Due to logistical issues and the need for raw materials, many industrial companies have settled near this refinery. This cluster of industries is now known as the Greater ABC Petrochemical Hub. Recap processes about 8,500 m³ of oil daily and produces many commercial derivatives such as cooking gas and automotive fuels.
