The New Geely EX5 Is The 100% Electric Chinese SUV Arriving In The Brazilian Market Via Renault. With A Range Of Up To 530 Km, It Comes To Compete With Giants Like The BYD Yuan Plus And The GWM Haval H6.
Out of nowhere, here it is: elegant, electric, and with Chinese DNA, but a French accent. The New Geely EX5 is Renault’s new bet to dive headfirst into the electric SUV battle in Brazil. And believe me, the competition is going to be fierce. With a launch scheduled for July, this model promises to make waves on the streets without making noise from the engine, of course.
Renault hopped on the electric bandwagon and partnered with Chinese Geely, which already has a respectable track record in the world. Just in 2024, the brand sold over 2.2 million vehicles, with 880 thousand being electric. And now, with the New Geely EX5, this know-how is hitting the streets of Brazil with full force.
Geely’s Return To Brazil With A New Face And New Plans
If you remember Geely from the 2010s, forget everything. The brand reappears in Brazil now in a different format: via Renault. The strategy is similar to an automotive franchise, where Renault offers its entire structure from dealership network to maintenance to sell Geely models on national soil. And it doesn’t stop there. Other models are already being reviewed to join the EX5’s momentum.

This new move from Renault shows an openness to new partnerships outside of the traditional alliance with Nissan and Mitsubishi. The focus now is different: surfing the electric wave, directly targeting the brands that currently dominate the segment, like BYD and GWM. And the Geely EX5 is just the first step.
SUV ARRIVES IN JULY: What To Expect From The EX5 In The National Market
Visually, the New Geely EX5 has that medium SUV look. It measures 4.61 m in length (almost the size of a BYD Song Plus), has a 2.75 m wheelbase and is 1.90 m wide. It’s a robust, wide car with a strong presence, ideal for those who enjoy spacious SUVs but with a modern touch. The front features an elegant LED DRL and a hood that alludes to Volvo and Tesla models, not by coincidence, since Geely owns both.
At the back, the light signature also alludes to other Chinese brands like BYD. The curves are smooth, with a hint of sportiness. The trunk offers 410 liters in the main section and an additional 108 liters underneath, totaling a great space for trips.
Inside The New Geely EX5: Finish, Connectivity, And Space
Stepping into the EX5 is like entering a premium car. The seats are meticulously stitched, there’s LED ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof with electric opening, and soft-touch finishes all around. In the back, the space is generous even for taller adults and the floor is completely flat.
The center panel features a fixed 15-inch multimedia screen and another horizontal digital screen for the instrument panel. The system includes driving mode control, lane-keeping assistance, ACC, voice command, and even digital sunroof adjustment. Detail: the infotainment system is 100% in Portuguese.
Engine, Battery, And Range: How The EX5 Behaves On The Streets
Here comes the important part: the New Geely EX5 has a 60 kWh battery, ensuring a range of 530 km in the Chinese CLTC cycle, which should translate to around 400 to 450 km in the European WLTP standard. Not bad, huh?
When charging, it accepts up to 100 kW in direct current, which ensures a full charge in about 38 minutes. At home with a wallbox, AC charging goes up to 11 kW. This makes the model practical for both urban use and long distances.
A Direct Rival For BYD And GWM: The Fight Among Electrics
With this package, the New Geely EX5 steps into the ring headfirst against heavyweights like the BYD Yuan Plus and the GWM Haval H6. It promises to come in strong, with an estimated price range of R$250,000 to R$270,000, placing it alongside direct competitors in the medium electric SUV segment.
The advantage is the alliance with Renault, which already has a network ready to provide post-sale support, something that weighs heavily in the decision to purchase electric cars. And, of course, the public is becoming increasingly demanding.
When And Where To Buy: Renault Network Will Be The Bridge With Geely
The SUV ARRIVES IN JULY, and will initially be available at 23 Renault dealerships spread across 19 Brazilian cities. The idea is to test the market, and depending on the reception, to expand the offering to other regions by the second half of 2025.
The consumer who wants to experience the EX5 can schedule a test drive directly at Renault dealerships. Additionally, the model will be officially presented during national automotive events and tested by influencers and specialized media.
The New Geely EX5 arrives looking like a star, with a competitive price and a clear mission: to win over the Brazilian consumers looking for a modern, reliable electric SUV with good range. Whether it will steal customers from BYD or GWM is still too early to say. But it’s undeniable that it has come prepared for the game.
Starting in July, we will see if the public embraces the proposal. What we can guarantee is that the electric market in Brazil has never been so lively and the consumer is the one who wins.
