Leading the Green Revolution through Innovation and Sustainability
Hydro, a renowned integrated global aluminum and energy, has been implementing creative solutions for environmental preservation, establishing a strong commitment to sustainable development in the communities where it operates.
With a strong alignment with the objective of promoting more sustainable societies, Hydro develops natural resources in products and solutions in an innovative and efficient way. Sustainability is a central pillar in the company's structure, which maintains high standards of control, monitoring and prevention to minimize the carbon footprint and preserve biodiversity.
Investing in Decarbonization and Renewable Energy
As part of the strategy to combat climate change, Hydro has the goal of achieving zero emissions in its aluminum production by 2050. To achieve this goal, the company is changing the energy matrix of Alunorte, the largest aluminum refinery in the world outside of China, located in Pará. In 2022, Alunorte took a big step in this direction, installing a new electric boiler, the largest in the world, with plans for four more in the coming years.

Reforestation and Biodiversity Actions
Hydro's commitment to environmental recovery extends to the reforestation of the Amazon biome. The company is proud to have reforested more than 2.900 hectares since the beginning of its operations. In addition, the company has been committed to improving the lives of people who live near its operations, highlighting the crucial role of sustainability and environmental education in its initiatives.
Hydro also focuses on preserving Amazonian biodiversity, and the bauxite mine in Paragominas, Pará, has been an important site for scientific studies aimed at forest recovery of mined areas. The company's efforts in this regard are in line with the goal of ensuring no net loss of biodiversity in new projects.
Hydro Rein: Pioneer in Renewable Energy
In 2021, Hydro took another significant step towards sustainability by launching Hydro Rein, an initiative dedicated to providing renewable energy solutions for industry and society at large. With significant investments and innovative projects, Hydro Rein is building a sustainable energy future for the industry, with Brazil playing a strategic role in its vision.

Commitment to Sustainability through Technological Innovation
The company that works in the aluminum and energy business has made considerable progress in terms of environmental preservation, by developing innovative solutions that help protect biodiversity and reverse the effects of climate change. Undoubtedly, Hydro has made a significant contribution to the sustainable development of the communities in which it operates.
Leadership in Combating Climate Change
Hydro is aligned with the Paris Agreement, an international agreement aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The company has set a goal of zero-carbon aluminum production by 2050 and seeks to lead the way in sourcing zero-carbon aluminum on an industrial scale by 2030.
In this sense, Hydro has made efforts to reduce dependence on coal in its operations. The company has been exploring other cleaner and more renewable sources of energy, such as green hydrogen and biomass from the açaí seed.
Furthermore, the fuel oil used in the refinery will be replaced by natural gas (LNG). This R$1,3 billion investment is expected to reduce 700 tons of carbon emissions annually, significantly improving air quality.
Reforestation: A Priority for Hydro
Hydro understands the importance of preserving biodiversity and, therefore, has invested in reforestation. The company has already reforested more than 2.900 hectares of the Amazon biome, which is equivalent to more than 2.900 soccer fields.
Hydro uses three techniques for forest restoration: nucleation, natural regeneration and traditional planting. In 2022, Hydro Paragominas planted 75.449 seedlings of 131 species from 39 families adaptable to the reality of the region.
Environmental Education and Technology
Hydro is also committed to environmental education and the dissemination of conservation information. To this end, the company maintains an ecological trail that shelters orchids, bromeliads, native forest species and vulnerable species.
Additionally, Hydro has partnered with startup Ludus Tecnologia to launch a virtual eco-trail, which uses Augmented Reality (AR) to provide a more interactive and engaging educational experience.
Biodiversity Conservation in the Amazon
Hydro's bauxite mine in Paragomina (PA) has been the site of several studies aimed at biodiversity conservation. Hydro has invested in research to improve techniques for forest recovery and conservation of the Amazonian fauna and flora.
Hydro Rein: Fostering Renewable Energy in Industry
In the year 2021, Hydro took an important step by launching Hydro Rein, a subsidiary whose aim is to offer renewable energy solutions for the industry. Hydro Rein focuses on designing clean energy projects and operations that are not only efficient, but also ecologically responsible. This further aligns Hydro with the global movement towards sustainability and tackling climate change.
