New VW Golf GTI Announced And May Hit The Brazilian Automotive Market Soon. The Model Emerges More Than Half A Century After Leaving The Roads.

Volkswagen, one of the most popular car brands in Brazil and worldwide, generated a lot of excitement by bringing back this year a car that hasn’t been seen on the roads for over five decades: the Volkswagen Golf GTI. Here, you will have access to all the details disclosed by the company about this iconic car.

New Volkswagen Golf GTI May Arrive In The Automotive Market In 2026

According to media reports, Volkswagen’s Head of Design, Andreas Mindt confirmed through his Instagram profile that the German brand plans to introduce a new GTI model starting in 2026. Thus, to the delight of many, the car will now be electric and should be based on the compact hatch ID. 2.

The designer posted a picture of a 1975 Volkswagen Golf GTI next to a more recent model and confirmed in the caption that in 2026, an electric version of the iconic model will be presented, announcing the return of this true legend.

The VW Golf GTI was first introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1975, with a production of 5,000 units. Since then, it has sold over 2.8 million units. In 2026, the brand will unveil the electric version of this iconic model.

Therefore, it is possible to predict that the next generation of the Volkswagen Golf GTI should feature common elements with the ID GTI concept unveiled in September of this year.

It is worth mentioning that the concept itself already includes some features reminiscent of the original Golf, such as the customized layout of the digital instrument panel. For those who don’t know, the original model was launched in 1975, and, according to the expectations generated, it will have a redesigned version after 51 years of history.

Next Volkswagen Golf GTI May Deliver Over 245 Hp

The next Volkswagen GTI will be built on the modular SSP platform, which is an evolution of the current MEB used by the German brand. Many technical details about the model are still a total mystery; however, it is likely that the hot hatch will offer more than the 245 horsepower of the eighth generation Golf.

Expected to hit the European market in 2026, the ninth-generation Golf GTI stands a chance of being sold here. This is because the production version of the ID.2 All – a model on which it may be based – has already had its debut confirmed for the country. Before that, however, Volkswagen is expected to launch a refreshed version of the current Golf, which is not sold in Brazil.

The new Volkswagen Golf GTI is expected to come equipped with batteries ranging from 38 kWh to 56 kWh, aimed at the GTI, with a charging capacity of up to 125 kW and a range of approximately 450 km per charge.

It is worth noting that, with a length of 4.05 m, the ID.2all is much smaller than the Golf, which currently measures 4.284 m; however, it has a width of 1.812 m, more than the 1.789 m of the medium hatch. The base is smaller, at 2.60 m compared to the Golf’s 2.63 m, but this is of little concern since the MQB-Light can be elongated, and the next Golf could be around 4.30 m in length and 2.65 m or 2.70 m in wheelbase.

Know The History Of The VW Golf GTI

Acclaimed, the Volkswagen Golf GTI has become one of the key models in the history of the global automotive market. In addition to being a derivative of one of the best-selling cars of all time, the GTI acronym marked the beginning of the hot hatch era.

It all started in 1974 when a small group of Volkswagen employees in Germany, led by then-press chief Anton Konrad, defied a decision made by the company’s management. The goal was not to associate its models with the rebellion of sports cars.

Some years after the project surfaced, in 1976, the model was named Volkswagen Golf GTI and was commercially launched. Initially, the idea was to create a special version limited to 5,000 units, but the success was so significant that production continued.

This first version featured a 1.6 engine with 112 horsepower and boasted exclusive plaid-design seats and a sport steering wheel. It reached a top speed of 185 km/h and could accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 9.2 seconds.

Os elétricos não são aceitos por todos, os híbridos e motores à etanol são mais racionais e limpos. No Brasil um GTI elétrico está fadado ao fracasso.
