State Will See A Historic Transformation In Its Road Network! With Duplication, A 2.5 Km Tunnel, And 16 Bridges, The BR-282 Is Set To Revolutionize Transportation In The Region.
Get ready for a historic transformation in one of the main highways in Santa Catarina! The BR-282, which connects important cities in the state, will be expanded in a mega-project that promises to impact the entire regional logistics.
This project, which includes everything from the duplication of long stretches to the construction of a tunnel and several bridges, was recently announced after the project was approved by the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT).
From the signing of the contracts, the highway connecting Lages to Palhoça will undergo a significant remodeling, involving multiple aspects of infrastructure.
-
Made from recycled plastic, plastic wood is gaining space in the construction industry because it does not rot, resists moisture, and reduces maintenance costs over the years.
-
A new Brazilian shopping center worth R$ 400 million will be built in an area equivalent to more than 4 football fields, featuring 90 stores, 5 cinemas, a supermarket, a college, and parking for 1,700 cars, potentially generating 3,000 jobs.
-
Florianópolis will receive a million-dollar BRT that will begin construction in 2026 with nearly 400 million in funding from the federal government and the Inter-American Development Bank, and the map already shows the routes for the exclusive bus corridors.
-
Without a blueprint, without an engineer, and using scrap from the dump, a father spends 15 years building an 18-room castle for his daughter, featuring tram tracks, 13 fireplaces, and over 700 m², which may now be demolished.
According to DNIT, the duplication will cover about 178 kilometers, along with the construction of 4.3 kilometers of side roads and 37 kilometers of ramps to facilitate vehicle flow.
The region is already facing increasing congestion, especially in the stretch between the Serra and Greater Florianópolis, making this modernization urgent.
Project Structure
The expansion of the BR-282 between Lages and Palhoça has been structured into eight lots, each with varied execution deadlines ranging from 11 to 18 months.
The total investment in engineering projects amounts to R$ 21.5 million, a value that does not yet include the cost of execution works, according to the bidding document.
The division into lots allows the work to proceed in a staggered manner, minimizing the impact for drivers throughout the process.
According to DNIT, the current planning anticipates interventions that adapt to the flow of the highway, but the population should still be prepared for some changes in traffic.
In addition to the duplication, the project includes a 2.5-kilometer tunnel on a variant in the Alto da Boa Vista region, between Rancho Queimado and Alfredo Wagner.
This tunnel, essential to ensure safety and fluidity on the route, will be a milestone in the engineering of the BR-282.
Another highlight is the 16 new bridges and 54 viaducts planned, vital to facilitate logistical outflow and safety at intersections.
Strategic Importance of the BR-282
According to DNIT, the BR-282 is an essential logistics corridor for the state, facilitating the connection between BR-101 and BR-116.
This axis is vital not only for local traffic but also for the movement of goods crossing Santa Catarina.
The section is close to saturation, especially around Greater Florianópolis, where the intense flow of vehicles is a constant reality.
This growth in traffic is one of the main factors that motivated the decision to expand.
In logistical terms, the BR-282 plays a strategic role, enabling the flow of products and ensuring smooth transit between the interior and the coast of Santa Catarina.
This expansion is expected to significantly reduce travel time, while increasing traffic capacity and minimizing risks associated with single-lane highways, especially for freight transportation.
Expectations and Challenges
After the completion of engineering projects, the next step will be to seek funding sources for the execution of the work.
Although the cost of the engineering projects is stipulated, the total cost of the work, including duplication and construction of new stretches, still depends on securing resources, which may involve both the federal government and partnerships with private entities.
Experts believe that the changes will be beneficial in the long run, but it is important to consider the challenges that may arise, both in terms of environmental impact and traffic adaptations during execution.
According to the Infrastructure Secretariat, environmental adaptations, such as preserving nearby areas and controlling noise pollution, are among the priorities to minimize the impact of the work on the environment.
Regional Development and Job Creation
In addition to easing traffic, this duplication and the new constructions are expected to boost the construction sector and create job opportunities in the region.
Infrastructure works, including the construction and maintenance of bridges and viaducts, require specialized labor, creating direct and indirect jobs for the local population.
This can have a significant economic impact, benefiting companies in the region and contributing to local development.
The timeline for all lots to be operational has not yet been disclosed, but contracts are expected to begin being signed in the coming months, indicating that the first phase of the project should not take long to start.
The expectation is that, by the end of the works, the flow of vehicles between the coast and inland Santa Catarina will be much safer and faster, in addition to providing a more robust infrastructure to support the expected growth for the coming years.
And you, do you believe that these works will really solve the traffic problems in the region or does Santa Catarina need more investments in the mobility sector? Share your opinion in the comments!

Balela. Só se a iniciativa privada pegar. Se esperar governo federal, pode sentar, ficar de cabelos brancos e envelhecer…
O trânsito em Santa Catarina é vergonhoso. Pior infraestrutura do Brasil. Os políticos(****)levam o dinheiro todo para o nordeste.
Bom,pelo menos esse governo tem projeto! Além disso tem milhões investidos pelo governo federal,e por conta da ideologia desse governo estadual ficamos no fogo cruzado! Quanto a corrupção,nenhum governo vai debelar!
