The Highways of Minas Gerais Can Become a National Model with the Massive Investment Aimed at Boosting the Infrastructure Sector in the State.
Can you imagine modern and safe highways transforming the landscape of transport and job generation in Minas Gerais? This future is getting closer every day!
With an impressive investment of R$ 25 billion, the main roads in the state are preparing for an infrastructure revolution.
Over the past decade, the highways in Minas have faced infrastructure and safety challenges.
-
50 viaducts, 4 tunnels, 28 bridges, and 40 kilometers of bike paths: BR-262 in Espírito Santo will receive 8.6 billion reais for the largest engineering project in the state’s history, inspired by the Immigrant Highway in São Paulo.
-
Brazil produces too much clean energy and doesn’t know what to do with it: over 20% of solar and wind capacity was wasted in 2025 while investors flee and 509 renewable generation projects were abandoned in the last year.
-
Piauí will produce a new fuel that replaces diesel without needing to change anything in the truck’s engine and reduces pollutant gas emissions by half: truck drivers from all over the Northeast are already celebrating the news that will arrive later this decade.
-
A new Brazilian shopping center worth R$ 400 million will be built in an area equivalent to more than 4 football fields, featuring 90 stores, 5 cinemas, a supermarket, a college, and parking for 1,700 cars, potentially generating 3,000 jobs.
Now, the EPR Group, winner of the concession auction for a strategic section of BR-040, between Belo Horizonte and Juiz de Fora, promises a radical transformation.
On the 5th, an event in the state capital will detail the ambitious plan of the group, which aims for a series of long-term improvements in the highways of the state and even in Paraná.
With duplications, additional lanes, and new electronic toll systems, the proposal is to make Minas a national reference in road infrastructure.
Event to Boost Investments and Partnerships
To consolidate the project, the EPR Group will meet with potential partners and construction suppliers in Belo Horizonte.
The meeting, organized at the Heavy Construction Industry Union of Minas Gerais (Sicepot-MG), aims to integrate local companies and strengthen the supply chain necessary for the execution of the works.
With more than R$ 25 billion to be invested over the next 30 years, the project is expected to boost the construction sector and generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs in the state.
Strategic Concessions for Minas Gerais
The modernization project for highways by the EPR Group involves several concessions in Minas Gerais. Below are the main details of the highways covered:
EPR Triângulo: With a planned investment of R$ 3.5 billion, this concession will cover nine highways in the Triângulo Mineiro.
The works will benefit 16 municipalities in the region, providing more safety and agility in transportation.
EPR Sul de Minas: Pioneering the implementation of the free flow toll system, this concession will receive R$ 2.5 billion to improve vehicle flow without the need to stop at toll plazas, providing a faster and safer journey.
EPR Vias do Café: Located in an area with significant transportation and trade activity, the concession will receive around R$ 2.8 billion over the next 30 years, with over R$ 800 million to be invested in the first five years alone, to accelerate the works.
EPR Via Mineira (BR-040): The section between Belo Horizonte and Juiz de Fora will be one of the main investment focuses, with an estimated R$ 5.1 billion in improvements.
164 km of duplications will be built, in addition to 15 marginal roads and 8 pedestrian bridges, increasing safety and accessibility for drivers.
Auction and the Impact on Toll Rates
The concession for BR-040, one of the busiest highways in the state, was won by the Infraestrutura MG consortium, led by EPR.
With the promise of significant improvements, the group offered an 11.21% discount on the initial toll rate, attracting the concession for the stretch that connects Belo Horizonte to Juiz de Fora.
However, the new contract has already had a direct impact on users: since August, the toll rates have been adjusted, doubling the cost at the three toll plazas on the route.
Now, cars, pick-ups, and vans traveling the stretch pay R$ 12.70 at each toll plaza.
The rates apply to the three main toll plazas on the route: Itabirito, Conselheiro Lafaiete, and Barbacena, cities that make up this important transport axis between the state capital and the Zona da Mata.
Expectations for Job Creation and Economic Strengthening
The economic impact of this mega-investment goes beyond improvements in road infrastructure.
The expectation is that the construction sector in Minas Gerais will gain significant momentum, creating thousands of job opportunities over the coming years.
The demand for specialized labor, equipment, and construction materials is expected to foster new businesses and strengthen local companies.
As the works unfold, cities surrounding the concessioned highways are expected to economically benefit, with increased commerce and service offerings.
According to experts, this wave of investments positions Minas Gerais at a higher level in attracting new businesses, becoming an attractive hub for companies interested in infrastructure and transportation innovation.
Minas Gerais as a National Reference in Infrastructure
If all stages of the project are completed according to schedule, the highways in Minas could become a model for other regions of Brazil.
The use of advanced technologies, such as the free flow toll system, already signals the EPR Group’s commitment to modernization.
This project could set a precedent for future concessions and show the country a path of modernization and efficiency in road transportation.
With investments of this magnitude, the project is ambitious and reflects a development strategy that places Minas on the map of Brazil’s major innovations in road infrastructure.
But will this plan really transform the highways of Minas into a national example? What do you think? The modernization of the highways in Minas will be a model for the rest of Brazil?

Se for verdade , amém 🙏
A via 040 grupo invepar, quando entrou prometeu a mesma coisa , e continua a mesma coisa, essa nova empresa na vai fazer nada … Vai terminar em pizza novamente.
