Russia Launched the Submarine Yakutsk, the Sixth of the Kilo II Class, Enhancing Its Military Power in the Pacific Ocean. With High-Precision Missiles and Modern Torpedoes, the New Submarine Strengthens Russian Presence in the Region. The Navy Is Committed to Modernization, Preparing New Contracts for Future Vessels.

With each new military development, Russia shows it is unwilling to leave its position in the global scenario at the mercy of other powers.

Recently, the country launched a powerful submarine that promises to intensify its presence in the Pacific Ocean.

Submarine Yakutsk

The Russian Navy celebrated the launch of the Kilo II-class attack submarine named Yakutsk at the OCK Admiralty shipyards.

This significant event was led by Igor Mukhametshin, Deputy Commander of the Navy of the Russian Federation, on behalf of the Commander-in-Chief of the institution.

The Yakutsk, whose construction began in 2021, is the sixth submarine of this class to be incorporated into the Pacific Fleet and the twelfth in the Kilo II line.

Increasing Naval Capacity

With the arrival of the Yakutsk, Russia reinforces its operational capability in the Pacific Ocean, joining other submarines already in operation, such as Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Volkhov, Magadan, Ufa, and Mozhaisk.

In his speech, Mukhametshin emphasized the strategic importance of this delivery.

“We are launching the sixth submarine for the Pacific Fleet, completing the planned construction of six ships.

Project 636 submarines are equipped with high-precision weapons capable of performing complex missions in various oceanic areas,” said the deputy commander.

Commitment to Modernization

Andrei Bystrov, Acting General Director of OAO Admiralty shipyards, also highlighted the company’s commitment to the Russian Navy.

“We are completing a series, but five ships already delivered speak to the seriousness of our work. New contracts are on the way, ensuring that we continue to be the center of non-nuclear submarine construction in the country,” he stated.

The Kilo II class is an enhanced version of the submarines developed during the Soviet era.

These vessels are now equipped with Kalibr-PL missiles (SS-N-27 Sizzler) and 533 mm torpedoes, as well as significant improvements in stealth and range.

These features enhance their capabilities in naval combat missions and coastal defense.

Next Steps for the Yakutsk

In the coming weeks, the Yakutsk will undergo system finalization phases, port and sea tests, until it is ready to be delivered to the Pacific Fleet.

This process will follow the same pattern as its predecessors, the most recent of which is Mozhaisk.

Promising Future

Currently, the OCK Admiralty shipyards are working on two additional Kilo II-class submarines, the Petrozavodsk and the Mariupol.

These vessels are part of a contract that will finalize the production of this series.

With the launch of the Yakutsk, Russia not only reaffirms its commitment to modernizing its fleet but also reinforces its role as a key player in the power dynamics in the Pacific Ocean.

How will the world react to this military escalation?
