Conab Authorizes Acquisition of 137 Thousand Tons from the 2025 Rice Crop, with an Investment of R$ 200 Million, Strengthening Support for Producers and Domestic Supply
The 2025 rice crop enters the spotlight with the new measure from the National Supply Company (Conab), according to a report published.
The state-owned company announced the purchase of up to 137 thousand tons of cereal produced in the 2024/25 cycle, using resources of approximately R$ 200 million.
This action is part of the Federal Government Procurement Program (AGF) and aims to ensure minimum prices for farmers amid falling prices in the market.

With only 1% of Brazil’s territory, Santa Catarina has built one of the most competitive industrial parks in the country, with 64,000 companies, nearly 1 million jobs, and a growth rate of 5.3% while the national industry is practically stagnant.
The measure was approved by the Ministries of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), Agrarian Development and Family Agriculture (MDA), and Finance (MF).
With this operation, the government seeks to ensure income for the producer, market stability, and food security for the country.
Financial and Operational Support from Conab to Rural Producers
The president of Conab, Edegar Pretto, emphasized that the measure represents an important gesture of support for the productive sector, especially in a scenario of rice devaluation in the internal market.
According to him, the initiative reinforces the commitment of the state-owned company and the Federal Government to farmers and national supply.
The operation will benefit producers from states where market prices are below the official minimum value.
To assist the largest number of producers possible, Conab limited sales to 189 tons per farmer, equivalent to 3,150 sacks of 60 kilograms or 3,780 sacks of 50 kilograms.
The expectation is to include around 700 producers across the country. Acquisitions will only be completed if the rice meets the quality standards required by the Company.
The grains will be stored in Conab’s own facilities or in accredited warehouses.
Interested producers must be registered in the National Register of Rural Producers (Sican) and should contact the regional unit of Conab to formalize their enrollment in the program.
The delivery of the product will only occur after an official summons, and the deposit must be made according to the company’s guidelines.
2025 Rice Crop and Market Stability Measures
The scenario of the 2025 rice crop has been marked by fluctuations in grain prices, influenced by increased national and international production, expanded supply in Mercosur, and the suspension of export barriers by India.
In light of this, the Federal Government has reinforced price support actions, including Selling Option Contract (COV) auctions held at the end of 2024.
These auctions resulted in 3,396 contracts, involving about 91,700 tons of rice, most of which was traded in Rio Grande do Sul.
In August 2025, new operations expanded the acquisition to 110 thousand tons, through 4,044 contracts signed with producers from Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina.
Additionally, Conab purchased an additional 956 tons in an initial AGF round, also authorized in August.
These actions complement the support package for marketing and moving production.
Still this semester, new public auctions are planned to offer the Payment Equalization Premium to Rural Producers (Pepro) and Product Outlet Premium (PEP), aimed at ensuring price balance and logistical incentives.
Agricultural Policy Instruments and Strengthening Food Security
The 2025 rice crop is directly associated with the Minimum Price Guarantee Policy (PGPM), which provides the legal basis for the Federal Government Procurement (AGF).
This mechanism allows the government to purchase agricultural products when the market price falls below the stipulated minimum price.
The resource is essential to protect farmers’ income and maintain stable supply in the country.
The financing of the operation depends on the National Treasury, which transfers the necessary resources for executing the purchases.
According to Conab, the measure is part of a set of strategies to reduce the impacts of price volatility, especially at a time when global rice production is increasing and putting pressure on the domestic market.
By allocating R$ 200 million for the purchase of 137 thousand tons, the government reaffirms Conab’s role as a regulatory agent for strategic stocks and as a guarantor of the balance between supply and demand.
This initiative from Conab regarding the 2025 rice crop strengthens the link between family agriculture, the productive sector, and food supply, contributing to economic stability and food security for the Brazilian population.
