With an Investment of R$ 14.3 Billion, the Alto Tietê Lot Project Provides for the Modernization of Lines 11-Coral, 12-Safira, and 13-Jade in the Metropolitan Region. Altogether, the mega project of the São Paulo government is expected to generate 15,000 jobs.
The government of the state of São Paulo announced a new phase of investments in the railway sector with the concession of urban train lines 11-Coral, 12-Safira, and 13-Jade. The initiative, which will be auctioned this Friday (28), foresees an investment of R$ 14.3 billion over 25 years and is expected to create more than 15,000 direct and indirect jobs. The project, called Alto Tietê Lot, is part of a plan to modernize and expand public transport in the Metropolitan Region.
Railway Expansion in São Paulo Stimulates the Job Market
The mega project will directly impact the job market in the state of São Paulo. Job openings will be available in different areas, particularly in civil construction, maintenance, and railway operation. During the execution of the works, which include construction, renovations, and station expansions, thousands of professionals are expected to be hired temporarily.
In the operational phase, when the new structures are in operation, additional job openings will be created for permanent roles such as operators, technicians, supervisors, engineers, and maintenance agents. The expectation is that the project will contribute to long-term job creation, offering stability for workers of various qualifications.

Works Provide for New Stations and Line Expansions
The construction package includes eight new stations, along with the renovation of 24 others and the complete reconstruction of four existing stations. In total, more than 25 kilometers of tracks will be added to the railway network, with an emphasis on the extension of Line 11-Coral to the César de Souza Station, which will have four new stops.
Line 12-Safira will be extended to the municipality of Suzano, creating new commuting possibilities for the population in the eastern zone and Alto Tietê. Meanwhile, Line 13-Jade, which currently connects the eastern zone to Guarulhos International Airport, will be extended to the neighborhoods of Gabriela Mistral and Bonsucesso, addressing a historic demand for mobility in the region.
Job Opening and Economic Development
In addition to generating more than 15,000 job openings in São Paulo, the project is expected to strengthen the production chain linked to the railway sector. Supplier companies of equipment, technology, construction materials, and specialized services should benefit from the demand generated by the mega project, which will further stimulate regional economic growth.
With this stimulus, small and medium-sized enterprises are also likely to be positively impacted, creating indirect jobs in sectors such as food, transportation, hospitality, and local commerce. Thus, investments in railway infrastructure have the potential to move the entire economy of the state of São Paulo, not just in areas directly related to transportation.
Public Transport with More Efficiency and Quality
Another objective of the mega project is to improve the quality of public transport for the population. The forecast is that, with all the improvements implemented, the three involved lines will together carry approximately 1.3 million passengers per day by the year 2040.
The changes are expected to positively impact the lives of students and workers, reducing commute times and expanding access to professional and educational opportunities. The expansion of Line 13-Jade, for example, will directly benefit more than 200,000 residents of Guarulhos, facilitating the journey to downtown São Paulo and Guarulhos Airport.
The integration between the new stations and existing lines also promises to improve connectivity between neighborhoods and municipalities in Greater São Paulo, contributing to a more efficient and accessible transport system.
Auction Marks a New Phase of Infrastructure in São Paulo
The auction for the Alto Tietê Lot will take place this Friday (28), marking the beginning of a new phase in the railway infrastructure concession projects in São Paulo. The initiative follows a public-private partnership model, with the expectation of attracting private investments and ensuring greater efficiency in the operation of the services.
The winning company of the concession will be responsible for operating and maintaining the lines for 25 years, as well as carrying out the necessary investments for network expansion. The contract sets out quality goals, deadlines, and performance indicators, with technical oversight by the state government.
According to authorities in the sector, the concession is seen as strategic to meet the demand for public transport in the capital and metropolitan area, which has more than 21 million inhabitants.
