Seadrill Signed Offshore Drilling Contract with Petrobras for the Charter of the Drillship West Jupiter Worth US$ 264 Million
The offshore drilling company Seadrill has been expanding its business portfolio in the Brazilian market over the past few years.
At the end of 2021, it signed an important contract with the state oil company Petrobras for the charter of one of its drillships for drilling operations in the Búzios Field region.
The agreement was signed for a value of US$ 264 million, an important amount for the oil company’s business portfolio.
“Petrobras is a long-standing and valued customer of Seadrill, and signing a third contract with them this quarter is proof of our strong partnership and commitment to the Brazilian market,” said Stuart Jackson, CEO of Seadrill, at the time of the contract signing.
This was the third offshore drilling contract signed between the companies at the time, as Petrobras had already finalized agreements for the charter of the drillships West Carina and West Tellus.
In addition, the contract for the drillship West Jupiter has a firm term of 1,040 days and the start date was scheduled for December 2022.
After Contract Signed at the End of 2021, Seadrill Announces Start of Offshore Drillship Operations West Jupiter in the Búzios Field
More than a year after signing the agreement with Petrobras for the charter of its drillship, Seadrill announced the start of West Jupiter operations in the Búzios Field.
“Together, the contracts for West Jupiter, West Carina, and West Saturn solidify Seadrill as the largest international drilling contractor in the region and is dedicated to serving the Brazilian market in the coming years,” stated the offshore drilling company.
It announced the start of operations through a post on its Twitter social media, drawing attention to activities with the state oil company in the Búzios Field.
Built in 2014, the West Jupiter is a sixth-generation deepwater offshore drilling ship built by Samsung Heavy Industries.
It has an impressive operational capability in depths of up to 12,000 feet, and its maximum drilling depth is 37,500 feet.
Now, it is embarking on offshore drilling activities with Petrobras in the Búzios Field.
This is another important agreement initiated between Seadrill and companies in the oil and gas market, as the company signed a contract in December 2022 to acquire Aquadrill, previously known as Seadrill Partners, in a stock transaction valued at US$ 958 million.
The start of drilling operations of the drillship West Jupiter marks another step taken between Petrobras and Seadrill towards warming up the Brazilian market in 2023.
