Second section of the second PROSUB submarine is transferred to ICN in Itaguaí

Submarine second section transfer to aa ICN

Works on the second conventional submarine at ICN, in Itaguaí are going well and this time it was the turn of the second section to be transferred from the Structures Factory to the ICN shipyard, both in Itaguaí.

Last Wednesday, May 29, the land transfer operation was carried out, of the second of the four sections of the second PROSUB submarine, which will be transported from UFEM to the Construction Shipyard of the Naval Complex of Itaguaí, the ICN, in Rio de Janeiro.

ICN, Itaguaí Construções Navais is the company responsible for building the four conventional submarines and also the first submarine powered by nuclear propulsion designed and manufactured in Brazil.
Both projects are part of the Submarines program (PROSUB) which is a Brazil-France cooperation agreement that includes technology transfer and workforce training in France.

On 25/04 Click Petróleo e Gás had already published the transfer of the first section of the submarine Humaitá (S-BR2), the second submarine of the PROSUB (Submarine Development Program) of the Brazilian Navy.

At ICN, the structure will receive the installation of sensors and equipment and all services will be performed to join the other sections that should be ready and also transferred by the end of June this year.

PROSUB foresees the construction of four submarines with conventional propulsion (Diesel-electric) and one with nuclear propulsion, the first to be manufactured of this type in Brazil.
Humaitá is the second of the four and should be ready by the end of 2022.

The first submarine in the program was launched at sea on December 14 of last year and was named Riachuelo (S40) and its sea test is scheduled for this year.
The Humaitá sea test (S-41) is scheduled for 2020, the Tonelero (S42) in 2021 and the Angostura (S43) in 2022.

The last submarine to be ready will be the (SN-BR) which will be named “Álvaro Alberto”, in honor of the Brazilian Admiral who pioneered the use of nuclear technology in the country.
