Named C385, Main Rival of Tesla Model 3 Will Arrive in the Automotive Market This Year Delivering a Range of 712 km and Costing Up to Two Times Less Than Its Competitor

After announcing and previewing it last year, Changan released all the details of the electric car C385 on Thursday (12). The mid-size sedan, which will be a major rival to the Tesla Model 3, features an attractive design and a surprising mechanical set. The model will be sold under the Deep Blue sub-brand and has been developed exclusively to be a direct rival to the vehicle from Elon Musk’s company. The electric car, which will have a range of over 700 km, will be available from the third quarter of this year, initially in China, and will cost much less than its main competitor.

According to company data, the C385 electric will cost in China around 166,800 to 214,800 yuan, which is equivalent to US$ 24,850 to US$ 32,000 in direct conversion. For comparison, the Tesla Model 3, which is produced in China, is priced between 279,900 to 367,900 yuan, equivalent to US$ 41,690 to US$ 54,790.

The electric model will also have hybrid versions costing around 152,800 yuan (US$ 22,760) and hydrogen-powered versions for about 239,800 yuan (US$ 35,720). In total, the electric car with a range of 712 km has a length of 4,820 mm, a height of 1,480 mm, a width of 1,890 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,900 mm.

According to the vehicle’s manufacturer, the C385, a name that may change when it is launched on the market, is based on the modular electric platform RPA1 and offers rear-wheel drive as standard.

Tesla Model 3 Competitor Features More Than 700 km Range on a Single Charge

The fully electric versions of the vehicle feature a rear axle motor with a power output of 160 kW, equivalent to 220 horsepower or 190 kW, equivalent to 260 horsepower, along with a battery with capacities of 58 or 78 kWh.

According to factory data, the Tesla Model 3 competitor will have a range of 515 and 712 km, respectively. Dual-motor and all-wheel drive versions may be launched later.

The hybrid variant features a 160 kW electric motor, which is equivalent to 220 horsepower, installed on the rear axle, in addition to a gasoline engine with details that have not yet been disclosed by the company. The setup includes a 30 kWh battery, capable of traveling 200 km in electric mode only.

The energy reserve in hybrid mode is an impressive 1,200 km, the vehicle’s manufacturer stated. Meanwhile, the hydrogen version of the Tesla Model 3 competitor delivers 260 horsepower and a range of 700 km. The interior closely resembles its rival, focusing on a 14.6-inch multimedia center in the center of the dashboard. Among the equipment, the highlight is the level 4 cruise control, similar to the competitor’s system. The brand that will sell the electric car has not yet revealed its logo, which is why the car appears in the released photos without badges.

The main rival of the sedan, C385, the Tesla Model 3 has a range of 500 km, accelerating from 0 to 96 km/h in just 5.6 seconds and can reach a top speed of 208 km/h.

The model can gain 60 km of range on a 220V home charger and features various technologies inside, such as 12 ultrasonic sensors, a 15-inch touchscreen, and many more.
