ANP Reinforces Its Global Role by Participating in International Event on Safety in the Oil and Gas Industry, Highlighting Innovation, Regulation, and Artificial Intelligence in Operational Management
The safety in the oil and gas industry has been established as one of the essential pillars to ensure efficiency, sustainability, and environmental protection in the energy sector, according to a report published.
In this context, the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) represented Brazil from October 6 to 10 at the International Regulators’ Forum (IRF), held in St. John, Canada.
The meeting brought together regulatory bodies from various countries to discuss practices and advancements in maritime operational safety.

Alert in the global energy market: Severe tropical cyclone hits the coast and disrupts gas production at major plants in Australia, threatening global supply.
The event emphasized the importance of international cooperation and technological innovation, especially with the use of artificial intelligence and the recognition of human factors in incident investigations.
Additionally, it consolidated Brazil’s leadership by confirming the country as the host of the IRF Annual Meeting in 2026, strengthening ANP’s strategic role in regulating the global energy sector.
International Cooperation and Operational Safety Regulation
During the IRF Annual Meeting, held from October 6 to 8, ANP actively participated in discussions about action plans and Opportunity Statements, documents that guide the development of operational safety policies for the coming years.
The Agency coordinates the project related to human factors in incident investigations, a crucial theme for enhancing safety culture in offshore operations.
ANP’s Director-General, Artur Watt, highlighted in an official video the importance of dialogue among international regulators, emphasizing that similar challenges require joint and ongoing solutions.
The safety in the oil and gas industry was pointed out as a point of global convergence, demonstrating ANP’s commitment to ensuring the adoption of best practices in its inspections and audits.
Artificial Intelligence and Technological Innovation in Incident Prevention
On October 9 and 10, the IRF Conference gathered industry representatives and operational safety experts.
ANP’s Superintendent of Operational Safety, Luiz Bispo, presented Brazilian experiences on the use of artificial intelligence in offshore accident prevention, highlighting how this technology has aided in the early identification of failures and predictive risk analysis.
The use of real-time data allows for improved efficiency of control systems and reduced incidents on offshore platforms.
This technological approach reinforces the role of safety in the oil and gas industry as a central element of sustainability and environmental protection.
Also participating in the meetings were officials Muriel Guerrero and Andréia Dalapicula Bravim, who contributed to the discussion on regulatory innovation and operational risk management.
Sustainability and Best Practices for the Future of the Energy Sector
ANP’s main objective is to ensure that companies in the sector follow stringent safety and sustainability standards, prioritizing human health and environmental preservation.
Inspection and audit activities have ensured that operators of oil, natural gas, and biofuels use technologies and procedures aligned with international standards.
The announcement of Brazil as the host of the next IRF Annual Meeting in 2026 symbolizes international recognition of the practices adopted by the agency.
By sharing experiences and developing new monitoring tools, the country reaffirms its commitment to safety in the oil and gas industry, promoting a more efficient, innovative, and collaborative regulatory environment.
