The Offshore Support Fleet Remained Steady in July and August, But the Number of Boats Awaiting Contracts Is Still High

Despite the increase in offshore activities along the Brazilian coast, the fleet of support vessels closed August with practically the same number as in July. See Here! Shell Authorized to Drill in the Santos Basin.
In August, we recorded 364 vessels operating in Brazil, with 326 flying the Brazilian flag and 38 flying foreign flags. In July, the number of foreign-flagged vessels was the same, but the number of national-flagged vessels increased by two, totaling 366.

The numbers also show that 90% of the fleet in Brazil continues to be composed of Brazilian-flagged boats. Compared to 2015, for example, 144 foreign-flagged vessels ceased operations here and were replaced by 77 Brazilian-flagged vessels, with 36 of these vessels changing from foreign flags to Brazilian.

The survey was released by “Portos e Navios,” which used data from the monthly report of Abeam (Brazilian Association of Maritime Support Companies) released yesterday (23/09).
According to Abeam, 70 vessels from the fleet are still awaiting contracts. The total fleet is distributed among the main types as follows:

PSVs (Platform Supply Vessels) and OSRVs (Oil Spill Response Vessels) = 174 vessels
LH (Line Handling) and SVs (Mini Supply Vessels) = 69 vessels
AHTS (Anchor Handling Tug Supply) = 45 vessels
FSVs (Fast Supply Vessels) and Crew Boats = 24 vessels
PLSVs (Pipe-Laying Support Vessels) = 17 vessels
RSVs (Robotic Vessels) = 13 vessels

The Main Shipowners in the National Fleet Are:

Bram Offshore/Alfanave = 51 vessels, with 1 foreign
CBO = 31 vessels
Starnav = 31 vessels
DOF/Norskan = 23 vessels, with 5 foreign
Wilson Sons Ultratug = 23 vessels

The 70 vessels awaiting contracts are Brazilian-flagged and were built in Brazil with financing from the Merchant Marine Fund (FMM).
Last year, companies affiliated with Abeam registered revenues of around US$ 2.7 billion for chartering their vessels to Petrobras and other operators in the sector.
