Alexandre Silveira Claims There Is Room to Further Reduce Petrobras Fuel Prices, Even Amid Oil Volatility in the International Scenario.

The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, stated this week that he still sees room for a new reduction in the prices of fuels sold by Petrobras. The statement was made in an interview with Valor Econômico, even in the face of international market volatility caused by geopolitical conflicts.

The declaration comes at a time when the federal government is seeking measures to protect Brazilian consumers from rising prices and is attempting to maintain economic stability.

According to Silveira, the government is attentive to the movements of Brent oil — a global benchmark — and hopes that the scenario continues to be favorable for negative adjustments.

“We have the conditions, and I hope the company can still reduce fuel prices further. It’s my expectation if we continue with Brent at the levels it is today,” Silveira said.

Government Monitors Oil Prices with Caution

Despite the optimism about fuel prices, Silveira emphasized that the international oil market may experience new fluctuations. Armed conflicts and diplomatic tensions have directly affected Brent’s prices.

Even so, the minister assured that the government is committed to minimizing impacts on the final consumer.

Petrobras’ pricing policy continues to be closely monitored by the Planalto, which seeks to avoid abrupt increases in the price of gasoline, diesel, and cooking gas.

Advances in Petrobras Licensing in the Equatorial Margin

Another point highlighted by Silveira was the progress in Petrobras’ licensing process in the Equatorial Margin region.

He informed that the state-owned company has already started the simulations requested by Ibama, a step that precedes authorization for exploration in the area.

“The next step is licensing. If Ibama requested the simulations, it has already given a clear signal that it understands the importance of licensing and that Brazil can know the potential and conduct research in the region,” the minister stated.

This project is considered strategic for the country, both from an energy and economic standpoint, due to its capacity to increase national oil reserves.

Gas Aid Will Be a Priority in August, Says Silveira

Silveira also confirmed that the provisional measure (MP) for Gas Aid is expected to be published in August. The proposal aims to ensure access to cooking gas cylinders for the poorest families registered in the Unified Cadastre (CadÚnico).

“17 million families will receive it. We want to start this process this year,” he emphasized.

This action is one of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s strategies to increase the popularity of his government, especially among the most vulnerable segments of the population.

Silveira Reinforces Support for Lula and Considers Future Candidacy

When questioned about his political plans, Alexandre Silveira reaffirmed his support for Lula’s re-election in 2026. However, he did not rule out a possible candidacy for elective positions in Minas Gerais.

“I consider myself young at 55 years old and still have some energy to contribute to the country and my state,” he said. According to him, any decision will be made in accordance with the political project led by Lula.

Fuel Prices, Petrobras, and the Evolving Scenario

Minister Alexandre Silveira’s statements indicate that despite the uncertainties in the international market, the government remains confident in the possibility of reducing fuel prices. Petrobras, as a strategic company, may be a key player in this process.

With measures such as Gas Aid and advances in licensing for the Equatorial Margin, the Ministry of Mines and Energy seeks to align social policies with sustainable growth.

The role of Petrobras and the behavior of fuel prices are expected to remain at the center of debate in the coming months.
