Petrobras Reduces Gasoline Price, But Sindicombustíveis Reports Lack of Passing On By Distributors and Warns Drivers.
Petrobras Cuts Price, But Discount Has Not Yet Reached Pumps
Petrobras announced a 4.9% drop in the price of Gasoline A for distributors. Thus, the average price dropped from R$ 2.85 to R$ 2.71 per liter.
However, according to Sindicombustíveis, the reduction has not yet reached consumers. The complaint was made this Thursday (23) by the entity’s president, Paulo Tavares.
According to him, the distributors did not pass on the full discount announced by the state-owned company.

Sindicombustíveis Demands Actual Price Passing
Tavares explained that, with a mix of 30% ethanol and 70% gasoline, the price to consumers should decrease by about R$ 0.10 per liter.
However, so far, the drop has been just R$ 0.04. “Distributors should reduce R$ 0.10 on gasoline type C. We warn consumers that the reduction has been smaller and, worse, diesel and ethanol have increased by R$ 0.03,” he stated.
In addition, he criticized the unjustified increase in other fuels. “Petrobras has not adjusted diesel, but companies have raised the price without reason,” he added.
Reduction Has Not Yet Benefited Consumers
Despite Petrobras’s announcement, the discount is not reflected at the pumps. That is, drivers continue to pay almost the same price.
This happens, according to Sindicombustíveis, due to the lack of transparency in the steps of the distribution chain.
Thus, the reduction in oil and gas prices announced by the state-owned company has not yet translated into relief for consumers.
Petrobras Maintains Rate of Decreases in 2025
According to Petrobras, this is the second reduction of gasoline in 2025. Cumulatively, the cuts reach R$ 0.31 per liter, which represents a 10.3% decrease for the year.
Since December 2022, the accumulated reduction is R$ 0.36, equivalent to 22.4%, already considering inflation.
Meanwhile, diesel remains stable. The state-owned company reported that it has not made a recent adjustment, but recalled that it has implemented three consecutive cuts since March.
As a result, the accumulated reduction since 2022, adjusted for inflation, reaches 35.9%.
Public Must Monitor and Demand Passing On
Sindicombustíveis emphasized that consumer monitoring is essential. Thus, everyone can ensure that the reduction actually reaches the pumps.
“It is crucial that resellers and drivers stay alert. Petrobras has done its part, but the passing on must happen,” warned Paulo Tavares.
Furthermore, he highlighted that competition among distributors should be a pressure factor for prices to drop.
Impact on the Economy and Pressure on the Oil and Gas Sector
The discussion arises at a delicate moment for the Brazilian economy. While Petrobras seeks price stability, Sindicombustíveis demands more transparency.
Therefore, the challenge is twofold: ensure passing on and maintain economic balance.
If the drop is properly passed on, it can help contain inflation, stimulate consumption, and alleviate transportation costs.
Thus, the reduction from Petrobras is an important step — but it will only have a real effect when distributors do their part.
