French Company Presents Hybrid Water Taxi Model That Promises to “Fly” at High Speed Over Water Without Polluting the Environment
Several years ago, the French startup SeaBubbles stood out in the market with its ideas for urban water transportation, as well as its designs for electric and hybrid boats of various shapes. These ideas helped the company become known in the industry, for its projects aimed at environmental preservation. In this year of 2022, the company brings its most advanced innovation, the hybrid SeaBubble.
The project is a capsule-shaped vessel and is 8 meters long by 3.5 meters wide. The maximum number of people it can accommodate ranges from eight to twelve, depending on the design.
New Hybrid Boat from Sea Bubbles Can Fly Over Water at Speeds of Over 40 km/h
Its ability to “fly over the water” at high speed, as the manufacturer claims, decreases drag and increases both performance and efficiency, making it one of its most notable features. At a speed of 18.5 kilometers per hour, the SeaBubble can navigate normally like a regular boat. Above this speed, it rises to a height of up to 60 centimeters above the water’s surface, on three carbon fiber foils. Its maximum speed is equal to 40.7 kilometers per hour.

The water taxi is powered by two 45 kW motors and is fueled by a hybrid system that incorporates hydrogen fuel cells and a lithium-ion battery. According to SeaBubbles, a refueling session that lasts only four minutes at a hydrogen station is sufficient to provide a range of 50 nautical miles (92.6 kilometers) at its maximum speed.
The SeaBubble is also loaded with a lot of technology, including gyroscopic and altitude sensors that detect the angles of tilt and rotation of the boat, thus maintaining the stability of the vessel in all directions.
The company has not yet released information about the prices of the new models, but has stated that the project is part of a new generation of boats that will help protect the environment. With the implementation of a pilot testing program scheduled to begin in 2023, more information is expected to be released in the coming months.
This Is Not the First Electric Water Taxi Model from SeaBubbles
About three years ago, the company introduced the Bubble Taxi to the world, which is a slightly smaller version than the new hybrid SeaBubble. This one has a capacity for up to five passengers and is fully electric. In addition to its reduced capacity, its speed is also underwhelming, as it reaches only 33 km/h. The operating principle of the Bubble Taxi is the same as that of the hybrid SeaBubble; it also has the capability to “fly” over water. Watch this video to see how the vehicle operates.
