Advancement in Renewable Energy with Construction Start
Statkraft, a global leader in hydropower and the largest renewable energy generator in Europe, announces internal approval for the construction of two innovative hybrid solar projects in Bahia. The projects, Brazil Hybrid Solar, VSE Hybrid Solar, and MdC Hybrid Solar, mark the company’s official entry into the solar energy sector, with operations expected to start in 2025. This development, entirely conceived in-house, includes a pioneering approach with battery integration using BESS technology.
Integrated Wind and Solar Complex
The VSE Hybrid Solar and MdC Hybrid Solar projects will be connected to the Ventos de Santa Eugênia and Morro do Cruzeiro wind complexes, respectively. With a combined capacity of 228 MWac, they represent a milestone in the group’s renewable energy generation. The Ventos de Santa Eugênia Wind Complex, the largest project of the group outside Europe, is in its final construction phase in Bahia, with the capacity to generate 2,300 Gigawatt-hours (GWh) annually, enough to supply over one million Brazilian households.
Innovation and Sustainability
In addition to the Ventos de Santa Eugênia complex, Statkraft is also constructing the greenfield wind complex Morro do Cruzeiro, which is expected to generate 386 GWh of renewable energy per year. Fernando De Lapuerta, CEO of Statkraft, highlights the importance of these projects for the company’s strategy, reflecting its commitment to accelerating the energy transition and integrating different technologies into a single complex.
