Want a Motorcycle That Doesn’t Require a Driver’s License to Ride? Check Out the Options Available Starting at Just R$ 6,990 and Discover How to Ride with Practicality and Economy!

Every driver or motorcycle rider knows that they need to carry the National Driver’s License (CNH), whether in category B for cars or A for motorcycles. However, there are some motorcycles that do not require a driver’s license, such as mopeds and electric bicycles, which can be driven with a Moped Riding Authorization (ACC).

These vehicles offer a practical alternative for those seeking mobility without the need to obtain a full driver’s license.

What Are Motorcycles That Do Not Require a Driver’s License?

Mopeds are vehicles that have an electric motor of up to 4 kW or a combustion engine of up to 50 cc, with a maximum speed limited to 50 km/h. These vehicles, popularly known as “cinquentinhas”, fall into the category of motorcycles that do not require a driver’s license.

To drive them, it is enough to obtain the ACC, or, if preferred, a category A driver’s license. Moreover, these vehicles need to be registered, and the drivers must wear appropriate safety gear, such as helmets and other items required by law.

Electric bicycles with auxiliary motors, with a power limit of 1000 W and a maximum speed of 32 km/h, do not require registration, licensing, or ACC. This places them in a unique category of vehicles that can be ridden freely without the need for a license or license plate.

Differences Between Electric Bicycles and Mopeds

Although both electric bicycles and mopeds are practical and accessible vehicle options, there are important differences between them, especially when we talk about motorcycles that do not require a driver’s license:

  • Electric Bicycles: do not require a driver’s license, license plate, or registration. They operate with pedal assistance and have a speed limit of 32 km/h, with motors of up to 1000 W.
  • Mopeds: require an ACC or category A driver’s license, and must also be registered and licensed. They operate with a throttle and can reach speeds of up to 50 km/h, with engines of up to 50 cc or 4000 W.

These differences illustrate how motorcycles that do not require a driver’s license can cater to different profiles of riders, depending on their needs and the type of vehicle chosen.

Registration of Mopeds

Moped owners have until December 31, 2025, to register their vehicles with the DMV, completing the registration and licensing. Additionally, it will be necessary to carry the ACC or category A driver’s license to legally circulate on public roads.

This registration process is essential to ensure that motorcycles that do not require a driver’s license comply with the law and provide safety to their drivers and other road users.

Motorcycles that do not require a driver’s license, such as mopeds and electric bicycles, represent a practical and economical alternative for those who wish to move around without the bureaucracy of a traditional driver’s license.

Obtaining the ACC allows for the legal driving of these vehicles, ensuring simplified mobility. However, it is important to be aware of the need for registration and to follow traffic regulations to ensure safe and lawful driving.
