TechnipFMC Closes Million-Dollar Contract with Petrobras to Provide Subsea Production Systems, Reinforcing Investments in Oil Exploration and Offshore Technology.
TechnipFMC, a global leader in subsea technologies, announced on Wednesday (24) a million-dollar contract with Petrobras for the supply of subsea production systems.
The value of the agreement is estimated between US$ 75 million and US$ 250 million, consolidating a long-standing partnership between the two companies and reinforcing the commitment to local industrialization and innovation in the oil and gas sector.
Subsea Production Systems: Essential Technology for Offshore
The contract was secured after a competitive bidding process and includes the design, development, and manufacturing of subsea equipment that will be used in greenfield projects (new fields), brownfield expansions (existing fields), and asset revitalizations.

Ocyan opens registrations for startups focused on innovation in the oil and gas sector and will select projects for Innovation Day with the support of Nexio.
Additionally, it includes installation support and life cycle services, with the possibility of additional supply of equipment and services. All systems will be manufactured in Brazil, strengthening the national production chain and generating skilled jobs.
Subsea production systems are critical components for oil exploration in deep and ultra-deep waters. They include wet Christmas trees, manifolds, flow lines, control units, and remote monitoring equipment.
These systems allow for:
- Increased operational safety.
- Real-time monitoring.
- Reduction of environmental risks.
- Efficiency in oil and gas extraction.
According to data from the National Agency of Petroleum (ANP), around 97% of oil production in Brazil occurs offshore, with more than 70% coming from deep and ultra-deep water fields. This makes investment in subsea production systems a strategic priority for Petrobras.
Consolidated Partnership Between TechnipFMC and Petrobras
The relationship between TechnipFMC and Petrobras is marked by decades of collaboration on high-complexity projects. Jonathan Landes, president of TechnipFMC’s Subsea division, emphasized that the company’s industrialized operating model allows for the standardization of innovative solutions and ensures predictability in timelines, meeting Petrobras’ expectations in its projects.
Therefore, it seeks to add even more value to the long-standing partnership that has been built, consolidating its position as a reliable supplier in the national market.
This statement reinforces TechnipFMC’s role as a strategic and reliable partner, capable of meeting the technical and operational demands of the largest oil company in Latin America.
Million-Dollar Contract Boosts the National Industry
One of the main highlights of the contract is the commitment to the national production of equipment. Manufacturing will take place at TechnipFMC’s facilities in Brazil, contributing to:
- Reduction of logistical costs.
- Stimulation of the local suppliers’ chain.
- Creation of direct and indirect jobs.
- Technology transfer and technical training.
This initiative aligns with the goals of the National Oil and Natural Gas Industry Mobilization Program (Prominp), which seeks to strengthen the competitiveness of the Brazilian industry.
Moreover, the minimum local content required by Petrobras will be surpassed by TechnipFMC, which aims to achieve up to 60% nationalization during the contract’s duration.
TechnipFMC and New Projects with Petrobras
This million-dollar contract comes about 20 days after TechnipFMC secured two other agreements with Petrobras for the supply of flexible pipes in different sedimentary basins. The previous contracts involve:
- Design and manufacturing of flexible risers for gas injection in the Santos Basin.
- Supply of risers and flexible pipes for assets in the Campos Basin.
These projects aim to increase production efficiency through gas reinjection, in addition to enabling the exploration of fields such as Búzios, Libra, Tupi, Atapu, Sépia, and Roncador3.
According to Petrobras’ Strategic Plan 2024–2028, investments of US$ 78 billion are planned, with US$ 64 billion earmarked for exploration and production. The partnership with TechnipFMC fits into this context of expansion and modernization of offshore infrastructure.
Benefits for the Brazilian Energy Sector
The signing of the contract between TechnipFMC and Petrobras brings direct and indirect benefits to the national energy sector:
- Strengthening of subsea engineering in Brazil.
- Greater predictability and efficiency in project timelines.
- Encouragement of innovation and the adoption of advanced technologies.
- Reduction of operational and environmental risks.
- Job creation and technical training.
Furthermore, the agreement contributes to meeting Petrobras’ production targets, which aims to achieve 3.8 million barrels of oil equivalent per day by 2028, focusing on high-return assets and a smaller carbon footprint.
TechnipFMC and the Future of Offshore Production
TechnipFMC’s operations in Brazil go beyond the delivery of equipment. The company continuously invests in innovation, research, and the development of solutions that meet the specific needs of Brazilian fields.
With industrial units in Rio de Janeiro, Macaé, and Porto do Açu, the company is prepared to meet the growing demand for subsea production systems.
TechnipFMC’s expertise in subsea engineering and its ability to integrate advanced technologies position the company as a leader in solutions for complex offshore environments, such as the Brazilian pre-salt.
Strategic Relevance of the Contract for Brazil
This million-dollar contract between TechnipFMC and Petrobras represents a milestone in the evolution of the Brazilian offshore industry, consolidating the partnership between two global leaders in engineering and energy.
Focusing on subsea production systems, the agreement reinforces Brazil’s capacity to develop cutting-edge technological solutions, with a positive impact on the economy, job creation, and energy security.
This strategic movement positions the country as a global reference in oil exploration in deep waters, while strengthening the national industry and promoting innovation.
