Seafarers Release Open Letter Requesting That The Subsidiary Better Oversee The Embarkation And Disembarkation Of People On Board The Ships. The Possibility Of Paying A Final Tribute To Their Deceased Relatives Due To Covid-19 Is Also Required. Transpetro Released An Official Note To CPG On The Matter

Seafarers, employees of Transpetro, are literally afraid of being contaminated or dying due to the sanitary measures against Covid-19, which according to them, are ineffective. The information was exclusively passed to Click Oil and Gas (CPG), the open letter from the seafarers and the official note from the subsidiary are in the following paragraphs:

Open Letter From Seafarers Of Transpetro S.A

“This is an open letter from the seafarers of Transpetro S.A requesting a stance and assistance for the workers who are working under precarious and unsafe conditions on board the company’s vessels.

As everyone is aware, we are going through difficult times, where many people have lost their lives to Covid-19 amid this pandemic.

Many families have lost loved ones and could not say goodbye due to having to follow safety protocols. In light of this entire pandemic process, we see that the company is failing and making mistakes that could be fatal for its employees.

We are experiencing an outbreak of Covid-19 on the company’s ships and the main cause of this outbreak is the number of people embarking and disembarking from the ships, without due control and testing, as is mandatory under the protocols.

We are not talking about the omission of the company’s employees, as they are quarantining in hotels provided by the company right after testing and the proof of a negative result for Covid-19 before the crew member embarks.

However, unfortunately, these procedures do not exist with the firms the company is sending on board, which embark without proper quarantine and testing procedures via boats while the vessel is anchored in some bay.

Due to this, several employees have already contracted Covid-19, even while onboard and having completed quarantine, testing, and followed the company’s protocol.
By doing so, the company puts the lives of several employees at risk simply by failing to comply with the current procedures and protocols.

Here lies the question in the air…… Is the company waiting for someone to die on board to take the correct safety measures?

So, due to this report and the desperation of the entire crew, as this is unfortunately a serious case, we are requesting a stance, surprise inspections on the company’s vessels so that we do not have to risk our lives and that we can return to our homes with the health we boarded with.”

Official Note From Transpetro S.A

“In light of the new increase in Covid-19 cases in Brazil and worldwide, Transpetro will suspend embarkations on its fleet for 30 days. This measure is part of a set of emergency response actions adopted by the company aimed at protecting the health of seafarers and preventing further infections by the coronavirus. Thus, Transpetro reaffirms its commitment to the health and safety of its employees.”

“The suspension is effective starting today (12/7) for new embarkations, that is, for those seafarers who have not yet begun their travel and prior quarantine. Crew members who exceed their embarkation deadline will receive financial compensation as provided for in the current Collective Labor Agreement (ACT).”

“Transpetro has adopted robust procedures in all its units since the beginning of the pandemic, always acting diligently and within the safety protocols required by Anvisa and the Navy. Among the preventive measures against contagion were included pre-embarkation quarantine periods with health monitoring for all seafarers, health assessments and RT-PCR testing before boarding and, onboard, mandatory mask use, distancing between individuals, and an increase in sanitation and other prevention measures.”
