Rio de Janeiro the PROSUB submarine tests

In Rio de Janeiro, ICN is the shipyard responsible for building the four submarines under the Submarine Development Program of the Brazilian Navy – PROSUB

The Brazilian Navy will carry out on the 21st of November, in Rio de Janeiro, in a maritime area close to the Naval Complex of Itaguaí, in the Bay of Sepetiba, the Static Immersion test of the submarine “Riachuelo”, a decisive procedure in the evaluation of its stability at sea. ICN Shipyard, in Itaguaí, receives the first section of the second Prosub submarine.

The submarine was launched into the sea on December 14 of last year and was named Riachuelo (S40), the same is the first of four submarines with conventional propulsion (Diesel-electric) and one with nuclear propulsion, the first to be manufactured this year. like, in Brazil.

This test will be the first in a series of evaluations that will precede the final delivery of the Riachuelo to the Operative Sector – Command of the Submarine Force, scheduled for the second half of 2020.

Static immersion consists of the controlled admission of water into the submarine's ballast tanks, until complete immersion, without using its propulsion.

This procedure makes it possible to calculate not only the watertightness and stability of the submarine when submerged, but also makes it possible to collect information on the volume of water admitted to the internal tanks, which are essential for knowing its total displacement.

Tests in the operational environment of “Riachuelo” portray a significant step in PROSUB's schedule, a program aligned with the National Defense Strategy. Also contributing to the strengthening of the Brazilian Naval Power.

The humaitá is the second of the four and should be ready by the end of 2022. The sea test for the Humaitá (S-41) is scheduled for 2020, the Tonelero (S42) in 2021 and the Angostura (S43) in 2022.

The last submarine to be ready will be the (SN-BR) which will be named “Álvaro Alberto”, in honor of the Brazilian Admiral who pioneered the use of nuclear technology in the country.

O PROSUB it prioritizes the acquisition of components manufactured in the country, in order to stimulate the development of the national industrial park, and attests to the high technological capacity absorbed by the Brazilian Navy and by Itaguaí Construções Navais (ICN) in the construction of highly complex ships.
