Eagle Passos tanker performs first operation by Petrobras carried out in the Tupi field, in the pre-salt in the Santos Basin

Petrobras informed in a material fact last night (19/01), that the tanker Eagle Passos, the last of the four new shuttles contracted to increase the company's outflow capacity, concluded its first oil transfer operation, carried out in the Tupi, in the pre-salt in the Santos Basin.

According to the statement, the oil, collected from platforms P-67 and Cidade de Saquarema, was later unloaded from Eagle Passos to an export vessel, in Angra dos Reis.

The tanker arrived in Brazil on the 9th and became part of Petrobras' fleet of 21 dynamic positioning (DP) tankers, which carry out around 1.300 offloadings per year.

Like the other three ships, Eagle Passos is a dynamic positioning vessel (DP2) – which stabilizes automatically – and has the capacity to transport and store 1 million barrels.

Petrobras says that the first, Eagle Petrolina, started operating in July, followed by Eagle Paulínia, in September. The third vessel contracted, the Eagle Paraíso, has been operating since the beginning of November 2020 mainly in the Búzios field, in the Santos Basin.

Since they arrived, the four tankers have carried out more than 100 offloadings, totaling around 51 million barrels of oil transferred and transported, mostly to Angra dos Reis and São Sebastião.

In addition to the four units already in operation, last year Petrobras contracted three more tankers of the same type, with delivery scheduled for 2022. The first of this new series should arrive in Brazil in February 2022.

About the tankers contracted by Petrobras

Custom-designed and built in South Korea, the Suezmax class vessels are equipped with a Dynamic Positioning System (DP2), with high-power thrusters and a dynamic positioning system. This mechanism makes it possible to automatically stabilize the vessel, ensuring safety and increasing the efficiency of the oil relief operation. The ships are also equipped with electrically driven cargo pumps to increase fuel efficiency and reduce costs.
