Brazilians planning to install solar panels in their homes must run out of time, given that the 'sun tax' will come into force in less than 6 months.

If you are planning toinstall solar panels on your home, it is good to do this as soon as possible, bearing in mind that now there are less than six months left before the charge that was called “taxation of the sun” goes into effect. Those who install a solar energy system at home from January 7th of next year to generate electricity will have to bear the distribution costs, a charge that is currently not carried out.

Electricity bill can be reduced by up to 90%

OS planning to install solar panels before the 7th will remain exempt from the taxation of the sun until 2045. Thus, to guarantee maximum savings on the electricity bill, the best thing for anyone thinking of installing a solar energy system at home is to do so before the beginning of next year.

As is already known, the generation of solar energy with the current rules can mitigate the value of the light bill by up to about 90% and that the investment pays for itself in a period that varies from two to five years, depending on the type of generation and the cost of electricity in the location where the user resides.

Charging the distribution costs of those who generate their own energy through clean sources is written in the Law No. 14.300/2022, the “taxation of the sun”, published in January of this year.

The new legislation was well received by the sector's entities for creating rules and legal security for the generation of solar and wind energy on their own, however it ended up making the modality a little more expensive.

Sun tax exemption will remain valid until 2045

Before the law, those who planned to install solar panels at home, for example, were exempt from distribution costs indefinitely, which should contribute to the large savings obtained on the electricity bill. Now, with the arrival of taxation of the sun, this savings will be reduced.

The legal framework, however, also established a deadline for new solar energy generators to take advantage of the old rule, followed by a transition period.

The exemption will remain valid until 2045 for all those users who wish to install on-grid solar panels within up to 1 year from the publication of the new Law, on January 7, 2022, as well as for those who already had a system installed before that date. .

Therefore, until January 7th of next year, those who install solar energy at home will remain free of sun taxation and will benefit from the maximum possible savings on their electricity bill for the next 22 years.

Companies plan to triple their sales with the arrival of the 'sun tax'

Considering that a solar energy system has a useful life of 25 to 30 years, this means that it is still possible to remain exempt for almost the entire duration of the equipment. For those who already have solar panels at home before taxation of the sun, the absence of charging will likely last until the end of the equipment's actual useful life.

After January 7th, the country will enter a seven-year transition period, in which there will be a staggered collection of distribution costs for new projects. The full charge will be made from 2029. With the arrival of the milestone, several companies aim to triple their sales.
