The Truth About the Toyota Corolla Cross SUV! DOES IT STILL ‘CROSS CREDO’?

Flaws of the Corolla Cross: Does Not Have Independent Suspension on the Rear Wheels

When analyzing the details of the Toyota Corolla Cross, it is evident that it disappoints in several aspects. Firstly, considering that the car is based on the Corolla Sedan platform, there aren’t many structural differences between the two models. Upon opening the hood, we see that the engine is positioned almost at the same height as the Sedan, showing that the Cross doesn’t differ much in terms of structure.

Additionally, the Toyota Cross does not have independent suspension on the rear wheels, which is unexpected, especially considering that the Sedan offers this feature in all versions. This is a downside for an SUV that should have a greater focus on stability due to its height.

Corolla Cross Features a Dashboard Upper Section Covered in Hard Plastic

Another aspect that disappoints in the Corolla Cross is the interior finish. Unlike the Sedan, which has an entirely soft-touch dashboard, the Cross features a dashboard upper section covered in hard plastic. This makes the finish quality not compare to that of the Sedan.

Furthermore, the Toyota Cross has excessive simplicity, failing to offer features present in the competition, such as a premium sound system and electric parking brake. It is strange to see a car in this category with non-functional buttons in the lower part of the climate control panel.

Corolla Cross Disappoints in Performance Compared to Other Conventional Hybrid SUVs

The Corolla Cross has also caused controversy due to the oversized exhaust muffler, which is different from the model offered in Europe and the United States. These characteristics may lead consumers to question the car’s quality compared to those sold abroad.

Moreover, the Toyota Corolla Cross disappoints in performance compared to other conventional hybrid SUVs.

Toyota Corolla Cross Is R$ 20 Thousand More Expensive Than Rivals

Although it performs well in urban cycles, on highways the Toyota Cross struggles with weak acceleration, falling behind the competition, which is often not much more expensive. Prices are also a downside, with the SUV costing about 20 thousand reais more than the Corolla Sedan in each equivalent version. These are the main flaws of the Corolla Cross in Brazil.

Qualities of the Corolla Cross: 2.0-Liter Naturally Aspirated Engine with 177 Horsepower That Provides Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in an Impressive 9.8 Seconds

Despite having some flaws, the Toyota Corolla Cross has its qualities. One of them is the excellent performance of the 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine. With indirect fuel injection, the 4-cylinder engine generates 177 horsepower and 21.4 kgfm of torque. This combination, coupled with a 10-speed CVT automatic transmission, provides acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in an impressive 9.8 seconds for a naturally aspirated car.

Another quality of the Toyota Corolla Cross is its 1.8-liter Flex hybrid system. Although it is not as powerful, it offers exceptionally low fuel consumption. In hybrid versions, the SUV can achieve averages of 17.8 km/l in the city and up to 14.7 km/l on the highway, according to Inmetro. These averages can vary depending on the driver’s style.

In terms of comfort, the Corolla Cross also stands out. With a soft suspension and appropriate ground clearance, the car offers a smooth ride, ideal for those looking for a comfortable SUV.

Is It Worth Buying the Corolla Cross?

After analyzing the flaws and qualities of the Toyota Corolla Cross, it is concluded that, at least at this time, the SUV is not a good purchase option for those looking for a Corolla. With higher prices than the Sedan and disadvantages in stability and interior finish, the Corolla Cross doesn’t justify the investment.

The Toyota Sedan offers a similar equipment package at a more accessible price. However, it is important to highlight that both the Corolla Sedan and the Corolla Cross are expected to receive updates next year. Therefore, the updated versions of the Cross may show significant improvements, making it a more appealing option.

Toyota Corolla Cross Is an SUV Derived from the Famous Corolla Sedan

This new SUV is derived from the famous Corolla Sedan. Although it has its qualities, such as engine performance and hybrid system, the Corolla Cross disappoints in several aspects, such as structure, interior finish, road performance, and high prices.

At the moment, the Sedan is a more advantageous option for those looking for a Corolla. However, it is crucial to keep an eye on the future updates of the Corolla Cross, as they may change this reality.
