Toyota Yaris Cross Arrives With Two Feet In The Door: The Dispute Of The New Brazilian Mini SUV With The Honda WR-V Promises To Heat Up. Both Arrive On The Market Starting At R$ 120 Thousand To Annihilate Creta And Renegade
The fierce competition between Honda and Toyota is about to gain a new chapter with the arrival of the Honda WR-V and Toyota Yaris Cross SUVs. This rivalry dates back to the era of midsize sedans from the 1990s to 2010, where Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla led the market, rarely challenged by others, despite efforts from brands like Chevrolet, Volkswagen, and Nissan.
This same dynamic is expected to resurface next year with the nearly simultaneous launch of the WR-V and Yaris Cross.

The Honda WR-V, following the lines of the Elevate model, will measure 4.31 meters in length, 1.79 meters in width, 1.65 meters in height, and have a wheelbase of 2.65 meters. Its trunk will have a capacity of 458 liters.
On the other hand, the Toyota Yaris Cross will showcase the same length dimensions of 4.31 meters, but with a width of 1.77 meters, a height of 1.62 meters, and a wheelbase of 2.62 meters. The trunk of the Yaris Cross, however, will have 471 liters, representing a significant advantage for Toyota.
SUVs Will Be Equipped With 1.5-Liter Engines
Both vehicles will be equipped with 1.5-liter engines. The WR-V will feature the flex aspirated four-cylinder engine from the City, offering 126 hp and 15.8 kgfm of torque, coupled with a CVT automatic transmission CVT.
The Yaris Cross will utilize the 1.5 engine from the Yaris model, which produces 110 hp and 14.9 kgfm of torque. Improvements are expected to ensure its performance matches that of its rival.
Regarding the hybrid versions, both will use the same Atkinson cycle engine, which optimizes energy efficiency by adjusting expansion and compression timings. In India, the Honda WR-V currently does not have a hybrid version, but it is likely that Honda will use the City system, which combines a 98 hp thermal engine with two electric motors, achieving a combined power of 131 hp and 25.8 kgfm of torque.
For the Yaris, the setup consists of a gasoline engine with 90 hp and an electric one with 80 hp, resulting in a total power of 110 hp. With the adaptation for ethanol in Brazil, these numbers are expected to increase.
